VETERINARY TECHNICIAN: LARGE ANIMAL HOSPITAL

Salary:

Minimum $18.00 Maximum $28.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications
Sign-on Bonus of 3-5% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid over the first year of employment (Minimum of $1,800+ for Veterinary Technicians).

Job Summary:

Join the exciting and challenging world of large animal veterinary medicine! This position performs technical responsibilities in support of the 24/7 needs of the Morrie Waud Large Animal Hospital at UW Veterinary Care (UWVC). The position requires the individual to make independent and responsible decisions which may affect the outcome/quality of animal life. Make a real difference in patients' and their owners' lives! Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

1) Oversees/guides workflow in area focusing on special patient needs.
2) Anticipates needs of clinicians in procedures and patient care.
3) Participates in case overviews to better access and direct technical patient support.
4) Develops knowledge and responsibility in area of specialization to include maintenance of special equipment, instructing others in use and care, assisting clinician/students in procedures.
5) Contributes to team management care utilized in large animal hospital.

Veterinary Technician II (AN003)
Veterinary Technician III (AN004)

Tasks:
  • Assist in all aspects of large animal nursing duties
  • Ensures all medical treatments are performed on patients
  • Euthanize patients as needed/requested by DVM
  • Participate in rotating on-call and holiday shifts as needed
  • Set-up and assist in ERs
  • Teach 4th year vet students and train new staff
  • Work independently, with minimal support

Qualifications:

To qualify for Level 1: Entry level, new CVT grad or awaiting to sit for the CVT exam, or some CVT working experience with no specialization.

To qualify for Level 2: Generally over 3 years of veterinary tech experience, may substitute years of experience for specialization.

To qualify for Level 3: Veterinary Tech Specialist (VTS), or highly qualified and specialized in a specific area, may have prior experience from another university hospital.

License/Certification:

Preferred
CVT - Certified Veterinary Technician
WI CVT License, or eligible to obtain within the first 12 months of employment

Work Schedule:

WEEK ONE:
Tuesday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, 9AM-9PM

WEEK TWO:
Wednesday and Thursday, 9AM-9PM

Schedule subject to change based on hospital needs and based on FTE assigned at hire. Will include holiday, weekend, and on-call shifts as required by the unit and hospital.

There are pay incentives for evening and weekend shifts of $3.00/hour night, $1.80/hour weekend, and the total you could earn is $4.80/hour for weekend and night differential on top of the base pay!

Full or Part Time: 90% - 100%

It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.
