The posted salary range represents the minimum to the midpoint within RVU's compensation plan. RVU's full compensation structure provides a minimum to a maximum range. The salary of the finalist(s) selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to skill, knowledge, experience, education, and credentials.

RVU offers a full benefits package that includes Health, Dental and Vision insurance, along with 2 weeks accrued paid vacation days per year, 12 accrued sick days per year, personal days, 13 ½ paid holidays and 401(K) match up to 7% based on employee's contribution. A hybrid work model with remote flexibility is also available for eligible positions.

Primary Purpose

To support all RVU students in achieving their academic goals in CO & UT by promoting self-understanding, incorporating effective study strategies, and overcoming barriers to academic success. This will include: 1.) Use advising techniques grounded within science of learning principles; 2.) Case manager for at-risk students and students with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations; and 3.) Operate as an integral part of the student affairs department by being engaged in assessment, strategic planning and Diversity Equity and Inclusion efforts.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Teach students about academic self-awareness and understanding of individual learning preferences through multiple learning assessments, including the Learning and Study Strategies Inventory and VARK Learning Preferences.
  2. Counsel students in utilizing optimal academic skills to meet the rigors of health care education, including study skills, test taking strategies, time management, note-taking, strategic learning techniques, and more.
  3. Meet with students who have failed coursework or specific exams to diagnose academic issues and develop individualized strategies and resources for each student.
  4. Create a remediation plan and track progress for students placed on academic warning or probation,
  5. Research, develop and teach various success skills trainings, workshops, seminars, panel discussions, and online resources (e.g. e-mail, MS Teams, videos,, etc.).
  6. Assess student learning through academic advisement by creating Student Learning Outcomes (SLO's) and regularly measure student learning from trainings provided.
  7. Maintain confidential advising records following FERPA guidelines, track student progress and performance, and record appointment session details and follow-up goals.
  8. Maintain spreadsheets, tracking documents, and monthly reports in appropriate database
  9. Deliver information about examination preparation resources and develop individualized study strategies and plans for licensure exams.
  10. Provide assistance and support services for diverse learners, including students in need of Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations.
  11. Serve as the university Disabilities Officer and reasonable accommodations and support services for students with disabilities.
  12. Evaluate all documentation, participate in discussions with appropriate university officials to determine the reasonableness of an accommodation and provide feedback regarding recommendations. Continue to manage student cases their entire academic career or until they have decided to opt out of services.
  13. Develop plans for individual students' academic accommodations. Oversee the Disability Services application process; advise students about the application process and make recommendations for accommodations and support services. Assist students with the application process for accommodation requests for exams such as national boards.
  14. Serve as the subject matter expert on ADA and present, educate, and provide technical assistance to campus constituents about ADA. Perform ongoing assessment of services and campus-wide Disability Services initiatives. Maintain the university ADA policy to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws.

Marginal Job Functions

  1. Perform ongoing assistance with Student Affairs events and activities.
  2. Participate in regular collaboration meetings with Student Affairs team across campuses.
  3. Have a clear understanding of all university and college academic policies; and work on a daily basis with other entities across campus.
  4. Help students navigate institutional policies and procedures.
  5. Annually review the policies to ensure RVU is complying with federal laws regarding ADA and meeting student needs.
  6. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean of Student Affairs.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. A broad working knowledge of student development principles and learning theories
  2. Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills
  3. Strong evidence of ability to set organizational goals from strategic plans
  4. Demonstrated ability to work collegially and collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituencies.
  5. Demonstrated high-level organizational skills
  6. Public speaking ability, both to large and small groups
  7. Ability to problem-solve a variety of situations that may arise with students.
  8. Can produce professional correspondence, documents, data reports, and presentations.
  9. Working knowledge of CRM or EAB systems, such as Banner, Slate, or Navigate
  10. Ability to maintain confidential information
  11. Must demonstrate knowledge of Section 504, ADA regulations and other relevant laws pertaining to disability in higher education.
  12. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Earned master's degree in an appropriate field, including special education, psychology, learning specialist, higher education leadership, student services/student affairs, communication, educational leadership & policy, public health, etc. from an accredited institution.
  2. Two years' experience providing academic support in education or a college/university environment
  3. Demonstrated ability to lead in development and publication of documents and training materials.
  4. Working knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Fair Housing Act and all other relevant federal and state laws pertaining to individuals with disabilities.
  5. Demonstrated knowledge of current information regarding state and federal laws and regulations as well as the best practices of other universities concerning the rights of persons with disabilities and ways of providing reasonable accommodations to persons with disabilities while maintaining program performance standards.
  6. Four to six years' experience focused on ADA compliance responsibilities and experience working with people with disabilities.
  7. Demonstrated relationship-building skills and ability to work with staff at all levels.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Three or more years' experience providing academic support in education or a college/university environment.
  2. Demonstrated experience with ADA.
  3. Prior experience in advising students in a healthcare profession.
  4. Completed coursework related to psychology of learning or learning theory in higher education
