The Peabody Preparatory is pleased to announce an Adjunct Piano teaching position in the Piano Department at the Peabody Preparatory, a division of the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, MD commencing September 07, 2022. Candidates should be experienced in teaching students of all ages and levels (beginner to advanced) as part of the Peabody Preparatory's Piano Department. Candidates should be comfortable teaching private piano lessons and small group classes, as well as adult learners.

Duties:

Teach piano lessons (30, 45, and 60 minutes in length) at the Peabody Preparatory's Towson and Annapolis campus locations* during the fall and spring semesters (32 weeks). Additional teaching opportunities are available during the summer (6 weeks). Depending on availability, potential additional opportunities may be available.

ABOUT US:

Located in the heart of Baltimore's Mount Vernon Cultural District, the Peabody Institute was founded in 1857 as America's first academy of music. Peabody trains musicians and dancers of every age and at every level through its degree-granting Conservatory and its community-based Preparatory school of music and dance. The Peabody Preparatory shares space with the Peabody Conservatory in downtown Baltimore and has three satellite branches in Towson, Annapolis, and Howard County, MD communities. The Preparatory has approximately 2,000 students studying all orchestral instruments, guitar, piano, voice, dance, theory, composition, early childhood, orchestra, chamber music, and more.

The Preparatory Piano Department welcomes students of all ages and abilities, from beginner to advanced. Beginners and young students will begin with our Piano Enrichment classes. More advanced students are encouraged to audition for the Peabody Piano Academy, our most selective program for talented and motivated piano students.
The Piano Department offers several ways for students to enrich their education, including studio recitals, repertoire classes, master classes with guest artists, and the Music Certificate Program.

The Peabody piano faculty is a group of highly experienced pianist-teachers, several of whom are also busy as performers and recording artists.
  • Bachelor's degree in piano performance required. Master's degree or equivalent experience and training preferred.
  • Documented successful teaching experience required.
  • Documented successful performing experience encouraged.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
