The Cancer Genomics Laboratory at the Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center Department of Oncology is seeking applicants for a Research Technologist position in the Division of Cancer Genetics and Epigenetics. The Lab studies cancer genomics, liquid biopsy approaches for detection of cancer, and early detection of cancer with the goal of translating research from bench to bedside. The Research Technologist will work under the supervision of a faculty investigator or postdoctoral fellow and will be responsible for laboratory maintenance and molecular biology experiments to support the ongoing projects in the lab. The ideal candidate will be a self-motivated individual with excellent work ethic and organizational skills. A Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry or a related field is required and prior experience in biomedical laboratory research is preferred. This position is fully funded.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintaining laboratory equipment, stocks, and supplies
- Tracking and accessioning orders
- Managing supply and reagent stocks
- Preparing laboratory solutions and reagents
- Coordinating biospecimen retrieval and accessioning
- Organizing sample and clinical data databases
- Conducting clinical chart review
- Following established procedures and protocols to support lab projects
- Implementing basic understanding of theory behind experiments to carry out protocols and identify and trouble-shoot obstacles
- Performing molecular
biology experiments
- DNA extraction from biospecimens including plasma, buffy coat, and tumor tissue
- Library preparation for next-generation sequencing
- Nucleic acid quantification
Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):
- Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or a related field
- Exceptional organizational and communication skills
- Self-motivation and an interest in biomedical careers
- Microsoft office proficiency, especially Excel
