Concordia University Chicago (CUC) invites applications for the position of Graduate Program Specialist. The primary responsibility of a Graduate Program Specialist (GPS) is to provide comprehensive advising services to graduate students enrolled in Concordia's graduate programs. The GPS provides a wide range of services that include, but are not limited to: information dissemination through both written modes and live presentations at orientations and site visits; provides the admission committee with information to review, make decisions and recommend admission of applicants; presents information regarding financial aid; monitors student progress from semester to semester; disseminates information regarding critical dates; assists students in continued registration processes; provides preliminary information regarding purpose and registration for internships and application processes/deadlines. This position reports directly to the Director of Graduate Student Services and is located in River Forest, IL.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Monitors student progress from recruitment through matriculation and continues through graduation
  • Completes and updates student program plans
  • Provides information to students regarding portfolio/capstone requirements
  • Assists students in obtaining transfer credit
  • Assists students in obtaining substitution coursework
  • Communicates course deficiencies
  • Regularly communicates with students via email, automated phone systems, regular on and off-campus site visits to all cohort locations, the Portal etc.
  • Informs students of critical institutional deadlines and monitors progress toward same
  • Disseminates and explains information regarding admission, enrollment, payment, registration, financial aid, textbook purchasing, IT services, etc.
  • Disseminates information and oversees registration for practicum, internships, academic courses
  • Represents the department and meets with academic program leaders as department liaison
  • Provides representation of Concordia University at site visits
  • Stays apprised of all academic course requirements through liaison role with Registrar's Office, Colleges, and Graduate Policy Committee
  • Responsible for department project planning
  • Candidates must support and be committed to the mission and identity of Concordia University Chicago, a university of the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod (LCMS).

Minimum Experience Required:

One year advising experience or student personnel experience with knowledge of curriculum structure required. One year experience working with adult learners preferred.

Education Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred
