Job Description

The Center for the Enhancement of Engineering Diversity (CEED) at Virginia Tech seeks applications for an Assistant Director of Student Programs to manage the Pathways for Future Engineers and provide support to CEED’s Living Learning Communities (LLC). CEED, established in 1992, is charged with the recruitment and retention of groups underrepresented in engineering and has implemented programs recognized both nationally and internationally as effective in increasing the participation of women and people of color within the College of Engineering.

Pathways for Future Engineers is a multi-year program that works to increase the number of first-generation students who enroll in, and graduate from, the College of Engineering at Virginia Tech. CEED connects with students through multiple programming sessions, tracking them from high school (with summer and academic year activities) through the completion of their engineering education at Virginia Tech. This position will be responsible for all aspects of Pathways, including recruiting participants, performing evaluation and assessments, and providing continuing support to Pathways participants that enroll in the College of Engineering.

CEED currently has two living learning communities, Galileo and Hypatia, and is in the process of creating a third community. This position will provide support for the Galipatia community through course instruction and student advising, and will participate in the planning and future implementation of the new LLC scheduled to begin Fall 2023.

The assistant director will work closely with the CEED Leadership team, participating in CEED undergraduate and graduate recruitment and retention activities as appropriate, advising students, writing proposals for funding, and preparing scholarly articles as well as program reports.
