Director of Marketing



Basic Function
  • The director of marketing oversees the planning and implementation of all Notre Dame marketing activities to drive the Universitys enrollment and fundraising goals. The position is responsible for managing a consistent image and message for the institution that promotes the university and its mission.
Essential Functions
  • Creates concepts, conducts research and collaborates with Notre Dame faculty and staff and board members and alumnae to determine goals, implementation and message for all marketing.
  • Champions the project management system and assigns projects to appropriate staff members as needed. Manages/monitors budget.
  • Works with enrollment and admissions staff members, the AVP for University Communications, internal clients and external vendors, manages the creative look and design of the Universitys presence on the website and works to position the University effectively on the internet. Directs creative vision for advertising campaigns for both enrollment and the institutional image.
  • Remains current with all campus and program information, including new or complex program offerings.
  • Gives input to new program development to ensure that marketing issues are taken into consideration.
  • Develop and execute strategic marketing plans for activities that drive enrollment for the University.
  • Informs the campus community as needed to keep constituents education on new project initiatives and core marketing messages.
  • Supervises and evaluates the work of all subordinate staff members to produce exceptional marketing communications.
  • Oversees accurate publication records, calendars, budget, photo samples and vendor files to implement tactical plans on time and within budget.
  • Prepares publication and budget plans annually to support strategic objectives of the University.
  • Performs such similar, comparable or related duties as may be assigned or required.
Job Requirements
  • Knowledge: Bachelors degree in marketing, communications, graphic design, English or related field required. Masters preferred.
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years experience in marketing and communications, preferably at an institution of higher education. Demonstrated supervisory experience required.
  • Skills/Aptitude: Must have established contacts with printing vendors, designers, and photographers; extensive knowledge of graphic design and printing processes and related technology experience in writing/design techniques for the web. Demonstrated ability in copy writing, editing and meeting deadlines required. Experience in managing multiple projects and production schedules required. Excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrated credibility to work well under pressure and to consistently meet deadlines; strong negotiation skills; ability to interact productively with faculty, staff, students, committee members and Board members; understanding of market research methods. Ability to lead marketing committees as needed. Mobility required for job related functions errands and other on- and off-campus assignments.
  • Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Some nights and weekends are required.
