About Drexel
Located in the heart of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Drexel University is a world-class, comprehensive R1 research institution and a global leader in experiential education. Serving as the cornerstone of experiential learning at Drexel, our renowned cooperative education program , also known as co-op, enables students to gain up to 18 months of work experience and build an impressive résumé before they graduate that will set them apart from their peers. For more than 100 years, Drexel co-op has positioned students to learn directly from the experts and visionaries shaping the professional world. Our program partners with more than 1,700 employers from around the globe, ranging from Fortune 500 companies and emerging startups to innovative nonprofits and government agencies.
In addition, Drexel has committed to becoming the nation’s most civically engaged university, with community partnerships integrated into every aspect of service and academics. Drexel supports engagement along three dimensions: research and academic programs that directly benefit communities, public service by students, faculty and staff, and business practices that support equitable local and regional economic development. Drexel’s engagement is long-term and multigenerational, and is fundamental to the University’s mission, heritage, and future.
About the Charles D. Close School of Entrepreneurship
The Charles D. Close School of Entrepreneurship has pioneered a comprehensive approach to education that leverages the breadth of Drexel’s innovation ecosystem. The result: our students develop not only the skills to create new businesses and meet the needs of today’s global markets but also entrepreneurial attitudes like creativity, problem solving, and grit. And because Drexel is located in Philadelphia, a hotspot of innovation, we are uniquely positioned to connect students with an impressive range of Fortune 500 companies, independent startups, and one-of-a-kind professional experiences.
Established in 2013, the Charles D. Close School of Entrepreneurship is the nation’s first AACSB-accredited, independent school of entrepreneurship. It was built upon the foundation of curricular excellence, forward-thinking programming and thought leadership for which Drexel is renowned, and its mission truly deepens the University’s culture of innovation. The School offers a BA and an MS in Entrepreneurship and Innovation and currently comprises about 200 undergraduate and 25 graduate students.
At both the BA and MS levels, our plans of study provide a uniquely holistic education. Embedded in our courses and extra-curricular programming, is a deliberate intent to cultivate innovative thinking, initiative, and resilience. Our students learn and experience the process of entrepreneurship, but more importantly, they learn and experience how to be the person — the entrepreneur. Close School students acquire the entrepreneurial mindset — an innovative approach to thinking and doing.
