JOB DESCRIPTION

Facilities Management seeks applications for a Director - Facilities Management.

The Director - Facilities is responsible for the overall management of all facilities operations for the University of Indianapolis consisting of 26 buildings on approximately 125 acres.

The Director will be involved in the following activities:
  • ·Space planning and design
  • ·New construction
  • ·Renovation of existing facilities
  • ·Mechanical and electrical systems and controls
  • ·Operations and maintenance
  • ·Grounds and landscaping services; and
  • ·Housekeeping and custodial services
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Establishes policies and provides leadership for facilities operations & maintenance, energy management, infrastructure planning, and construction management
  • Participates in space planning activities and provides advice regarding space allocation and building modifications
  • Oversees the appearance, maintenance, operations, and housekeeping of all facilities and grounds and the utilities systems
  • Manages complex projects involving active and proposed capital projects from conception to completion
  • Provides leadership and direction in all aspects of administering a strong program of communicating with the campus community that emphasizes customer service and client involvement
  • Implements strategies for continuous improvement of campus infrastructure, systems, operations, and energy conservation
  • Establishes and implements short- and long-range organizational goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates program effectiveness; implements changes required for improvement
  • Designs establishes, and maintains staffing and an organizational structure to effectively accomplish the functions of Facilities; recruits, employs, supervises, and evaluates departmental staff; directs the implementation of management development skills training, and safety training
  • Develops and manages annual budgets for the organization and performs periodic cost and productivity analyses
  • Develops and maintains multi-year capital plans for campus facilities and improvements
  • Recommends and participates in the development of university policies and procedures; may serve on University planning and policy-making committees
  • Advises the University administration on the funding needs to adequately maintain the physical facilities of the institution, and assists the administration in the allocation of fiscal resources for various capital improvement and maintenance projects on the campus
  • Utilizes financial/business analysis techniques including budgeting and variance reporting
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Engineering Management required
  • Advanced degree or Professional Engineers License (PE) a plus
  • Minimum 7 years' experience managing a comprehensive facilities and maintenance organization with direct responsibility for supervision of personnel and budget management
  • Certified Facilities Manager, Facilities Management Professional, or Certified Energy Manager certification prefered
  • Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Possess knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and their maintenance and operation, and application of BMMS controls
  • Possess knowledge of construction and project management and applicable building codes
  • Adhere to all industry and construction safety standards, work practices, laws, and regulations
  • Must be available to work in the event of emergencies, or to meet the needs of the University
  • Must be able to work an occasional weekend
