Job Details

As a member of Transfer Initiatives within the Academic Success Center, the incumbent is responsible for utilizing predictive analytics, to support retention and time to degree initiatives for transfer students. The position assists with the coordination of communications between the academic colleges and transfer students regarding academic warning, as well as provides support services to these students including academic advising, program dissemination, registration assistance and other campus resources. Additionally, the incumbent develops and offers strategic data-driven campaigns for transfer students that aid them in the transition from another school to ODU to increase the retention and graduation rates of transfer students. Further, this position advises prospective transfer students and interprets policies and procedures regarding admissions requirements, major exploration, transfer agreements and academic requirements. This position supports Transfer VA projects.

Required Qualifications: Requires a Master’s degree in Counseling, Public Administration, Higher Education, or other related discipline. Experience in counseling and advising transfer students. Minimum of one year of academic advising experience in a higher education setting. Experience using Banner and Degree Works, or other technology supporting academic advising. General working knowledge of academic vocabulary. Knowledge of transfer students’ programs, processes, and procedures including working with “at-risk” populations. Effective organizational skills; versatility and problem-solving skills are a must. Excellent inter-personal skills, including public speaking. Strong written communication skills and skills utilizing technology and assessment. Knowledge of counseling and student development theory. Effective programming and presentation skills. Ability to multitask and attend to details and completing job requirements in a dynamic work environment.
