Digital Outreach/Library Support Specialist

Woodbury University invites applications for the position of Digital Outreach/Library Support Specialist reporting to the University Librarian. This position is funded for three years through a Title V grant, and weekly reporting to the grant Activity Director will be required until the grant has matured. This individual serves as the subject specialist and liaison to Woodbury’s computer science programs in addition to providing administrative support to library faculty.

Responsibilities

• Serve as specialist/liaison to Computer Science and Data Analytics, Computer Information Systems, Design Computation, and Computer Science – Media Arts programs. Support the project-related use of digital and physical collections by faculty, staff, and students.
• Provide reference and research assistance. Provide subject expertise and promote awareness and use of library resources. Some evenings and weekends may be required to ensure adequate coverage of the reference desk.
• Collaborate with technical, academic, and administrative departments to produce dynamic and responsive information delivery. Take proactive steps to ensure strong working relationships with other administrative and academic departments.
• Provide administrative support at the direction of the University Librarian to library faculty overseeing operational functions such as Access Services, Systems, and Student Success.
• Other duties as assigned.  

Requirements

• Bachelors degree in Library Science, Computer Science, or related field.
• Familiarity with digital reference materials.
• At least two years of library/reference collection support, preferably at the post-secondary level.
• Familiarity with the functions of integrated library systems or library service platforms.
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills; ability to quickly acquire new skills.
• Ability to establish and maintain excellent cooperative working relationships with individuals and departments.
• Commitment to the values of diversity, equity and inclusion as evidenced through library collections, services, and programs.
• Strong public service commitment and team attitude.
• Ability to communicate effectively in both written and oral form to different types of stakeholders with different knowledge backgrounds.

Physical Requirements

• Close vision, hearing/listening, and clear speech.
• Walking, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
• Kneeling, stooping, bending, sitting, squatting, standing, etc.
• Works with/around and has verbal and face-to-face contact with others.
• Works indoors/outdoors around construction and mechanical equipment.
• Work schedule may include some weekends and evenings.

Preferred Qualifications

• Masters degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.
• Post-secondary degree in Computer Science or related field.
