Friends University invites applications for a full-time faculty member to serve as visiting Assistant Professor of Strings and Orchestra Director for the 2022-23 academic year. This position is an interim nine-month faculty appointment and reports to the Chair of the Division of Fine Arts. The ideal candidate will hold at a minimum, a Master’s degree in a string area or conducting and have orchestra directing experience. The successful applicant will direct the Friends University Community Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, teach music theory, string methods, and private lessons, and work with the Chair of Fine Arts in providing leadership to the string program.

EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will teach/direct:
- Friends University Community Orchestra Chamber Orchestra Music Theory & Aural Skills 3 &4 String Methods Applied Instrumental Lessons
Additional duties include:
- Recruiting students and managing scholarships for the string program Overseeing the budget of the string program
Other possible duties, depending on the interests of the new faculty member, include teaching:
- Composition and/or Arranging Chamber Music
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will hold at a minimum, a Master’s degree in a string area or conducting, will have experience directing orchestras, and will have significant academic and/or professional experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The university prefers to hire a candidate who is a string player and holds a terminal degree in a string area and/or orchestral conducting, or is currently in the dissertation process with a clear plan for completion
