Job Summary

Maintain landscape plantings to include flower and shrub beds, turfgrass, native grass plantings, trees and tree rings. Work will involve mowing and trimming, weeding and watering shrub and flower beds, mowing and weeding of the native grass areas and tree maintenance. Will assist with snow removal and other duties as assigned.
Job Duties
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- 1. Main duty - Turf Maintenance Performance is acceptable when: a. Turf is mown and trimmed on a weekly basis. b. Turf is repaired when needed, holes filled sod/seed applied when needed. c. Adjustments made to irrigation heads and programs made as needed, minor repairs done promptly.
- 2. Main duty - Shrub beds and trees Performance is acceptable when: a. Weeding and pruning kept neat in newly planted shrub beds and tree rings through manual and chemical methods. b. Tree rings are kept free from weeds and mulched. c. Pruning performed with proper cuts and kept maintained.
- 3. Main duty - Snow Removal Performance is acceptable when: a. Is available and on time when needed for snow duties. b. Performs tasks without need for call backs to work areas. c. Keeps areas safe and accessible for students, staff and faculty.
- 4. Main duty - Native grasses Performance is acceptable when: a. Fertilize and reseed areas when applicable. b. Mow areas occasional to control weed growth from crowding out desired species. c. Use of herbicides to maintain problem spots in plantings.
Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing. Scheduling, shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.
Required Qualifications
- High School or equivalent
- Turf and Ornamental Pesticide applicator License—already
certified or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire
date
- 3 years experience in Grounds maintenance to include, chemical
application experience
- Mowing and trimming experience with commercial
equipment
- Experience with commercial and residential irrigation repairs
and/or installation.
Preferred Qualifications - Native grass maintenance experience
