Job Description:

With supervision, independently and in collaboration with others, perform research in animal models of disease, conduct a wide variety of standard laboratory procedures thereof; analyze data and interpret results; investigate, troubleshoot, and modify methods and procedures as necessary; may assist in designing experiments; may provide routine equipment maintenance as well as guidance/training to other department personnel; perform other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as required or assigned.

RESPONSIBLITIES AND DUTIES:
• Management of mouse colonies including daily observations
• Perform treatments of study animals including surgeries, collection of blood, and harvesting organs and tissues at the end of studies
• Work under general supervision. Assistance given for unusual problems and normally reviewed for application of sound professional judgement
• Ability to independently conduct a wide variety of standard laboratory techniques/procedures as applied to colony management and in vivo studies. Some ability to use judgement when necessary to adapt standard methods and techniques. Receive instructions on specific assignment objectives, complex features, and possible solutions.
• May provide interpretation and initial analyses of results.
• Limited ability to troubleshoot and modify procedures.
• May assist in designing experiments to complete a segment of overall research plan.

Expected Salary:

Commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Degree from an accredited veterinary technology program; or an associate's degree and one year of experience as a veterinary technician.

Preferred Qualifications:

AA with 10 years’ experience in animal handling and dosing, particularly p.o., tissue harvesting, mouse colony management. Ability to perform genotyping and other downstream assays such as RT-qPCR, tissue slicing, immunohistochemistry, FISH, Western blotting desirable but not required.
