JOB SUMMARY

The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences seeks applicants for a full-time position as an Educational Program Assistant 2 for the Department of Ecology & Evolutionary Biology.  Under the direction of the Ecology & Evolutionary Biology Educational Program Administrator, will provide programmatic and administrative support to the Department including personnel actions and graduate admissions. The incumbent is expected to work independently under supervision and within the defined guidelines established by the program and the supervisor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Plans and executes aspects of program events, DEI initiative implementations, outreach activities, and promotional materials.
  2. Assists with departmental communications including: ListServs, newsletters, website, digital displays, etc.
  3. Performs office management duties with program logistics and administrative support for graduate and undergraduate programs.
  4. Provides service on graduate admissions and related academic processes from application to commencement; including annual recruitment, orientation, and commencement reception.
  5. Processes Graduate Assistantship payroll transactions for academic year appointments and summer special payroll.
  6. Serves as a resource for students, faculty, and outside groups on matters relating to program activities.
  7. Maintains accurate records and may assemble data and prepare statistical and/or historical reports, most of which may relate to graduate students and alumni.
  8. Provides direct training and related support services to students and some faculty, and follows up to resolve problems in assigned area of responsibility.
  9. Assists in the preparation of budgets and monitors expenditures such as Graduate Assistantships and departmental fellowships/scholarships.
  10. Provides general office support, including answering phones, responding to inquiries, and directing calls.
  11. Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Bachelor’s degree in business or related field and two to three years of related experience.
  2. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  3. Demonstrated customer service skills.
  4. Excellent computer skills including experience in MS Office Suite.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and regularly exercise judgment regarding administrative detail and procedures.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Experience working in a higher education setting.
  2. Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment with excellent attention to detail.
  3. Experience with graduate programs or other academic program support.
  4. Prior experience with university admissions.
  5. Experience with event planning and coordination.
  6. Ability to engage, connect, and work with diverse student, administrative, and faculty populations and provide a commitment to the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion in an educational setting.

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 12-month, permanent position in the UCPEA union. The University offers a competitive salary, outstanding benefits including employee and dependent tuition waivers at UConn, and a highly desirable work environment. Salary will be commensurate with the successful candidate's background and experience.
