Department Summary

The Office of Student Engagement serves as an important space for students to get involved, engaged, and develop leadership at CSUSB. OSE works with student clubs & organizations, fraternities & sororities, leadership development programming, oversees the National Student Exchange program, and implements broader campus activities that encourage individual student involvement at CSUSB. The mission of OSE is to provide, create, and support an inclusive student experience through social and co-curricular opportunities that foster student involvement and build affinity to CSUSB.

Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Director, the Student Engagement Coordinator is responsible for advising culturally-based chartered student organizations on topics such as leadership development, event planning, transition planning, and risk management. The incumbent will partner with cultural centers and other departments in education and advocacy around the needs of students associated with these respective communities. The Student Engagement Coordinator builds relationships with respective student communities, assesses student needs, and supports students in navigating curricular and co-curricular success. Additionally, this Student Engagement Coordinator is responsible for creating and developing leadership programs for all students in the CSUSB community.

Employment Status: Full-time, probationary, “exempt” position (with the possibility of converting to permanent).

First Review Deadline: This position will remain open until filled. Applicants will be reviewed beginning November 16, 2021.

Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.

Key Qualifications

Knowledge:
  • Working knowledge of the practices, procedures and activities of the program to which assigned.
  • General knowledge of the methods and problems of organizational and program management.
  • General knowledge of research and interview techniques; and of the principles of individual and group behavior.

Abilities:
  • Ability to interpret and apply program rules and regulations.
  • Use initiative and resourcefulness in planning work assignments and in implementing long-range program improvements.
  • Obtain factual and interpretative information through interviews.
  • Reason logically.
  • Collect, compile, analyze and evaluate data and make verbal or written presentations based on these data.
  • Advise students individually and in groups on routine matters where required.
  • Recognize multicultural, multisexed and multi‑aged value systems and work accordingly.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with faculty, CSU administrators, student organizations, private and public agencies and others in committee work, and student advising and community contacts.
  • Rapidly acquire a general knowledge of the overall operation, functions and programs of the campus to which assigned. Demonstrated ability to make decisions and carry through actions having implications with regard to other program or service areas Services Office.
  • Possession of these knowledge and abilities typically is demonstrated through the Experience requirements below.

Education and Experience
  • Education: Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field. Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
  • Experience: Equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field; experience should give evidence of competence and indicate the potential for further growth. A master's degree in a job‑related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience.

  • Preferred Qualifications
  • A Master's Degree from an accredited university in Student Affairs or Counseling is preferred.
  • Experience working with Campus Labs Engage student involvement platform.

  • Salary:

    Anticipated Hiring Range: $4,304 - $4,600 per month

    Classification Salary Range: $4,304 - $6,120 per month
