The newly established Associate Vice President for Corporate Partnerships will serve as the primary university liaison for strategic planning, communication, and direct engagement with current and prospective corporate partners. The position resides in the Office of Research but works daily with colleagues in the Office of the President, Academic Affairs, Advancement, the Institute for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Student Engagement, the various colleges and departments and other areas to advance and coordinate corporate engagement across the spectrum of university-corporate partnership functions.

The major objectives for the position include initiating and cultivating relationships with senior executives at corporations and non-profits to develop partnership opportunities such as: Internships, apprenticeships, clinical rotations, and employment placements; Part-time teaching by executives; Curricular co-development of adult learning opportunities, certificate programs; Degree completion initiatives; Employee credential upgrades; Corporate grants for research & development; Workforce development initiatives; and Faculty and university leadership interaction with corporate leaders and prospects.

The Associate Vice President for Corporate Partnerships will serve as ODU’s representative on a variety of economic development, workforce, professional association, and other boards. In addition, the position will be ODU’s point of contact in helping attract new businesses to locate in Hampton Roads as well as retain current companies in the region. The position will be expected to design and coordinate a partnership council to coordinate corporate account management across the university, to contribute to the development of proposals, and to steward significant relationships. The position will implement a system of metrics to track success.

Required Qualifications: A Master’s degree is required, with Business, Economics, Engineering, or Public Administration as preferred fields.
Considerable knowledge of the higher education industry. Ability to work with diverse populations in a complex environment. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, presentation, and communication skills. Have the credibility, political savvy, and sophistication needed to effectively engage and partner with internal and external stakeholders. High level of self-motivation and persistence. Demonstrated experience in developing partnerships, launching initiatives, and attracting funding. Substantial executive experience in business development and senior relationship building.

Preferred Qualifications: Higher education experience. Successful proposal writing experience. Ph.D. in Economics, Business, Engineering, or related field.
