Job Description:
The Assistant Director manages the Kearney International Center student services processes related to orientation, advising, student activities and events. This person provides direct service to the international student population through F-1 immigration advising and acting as staff advisor to the International Student Association. As senior F-1 immigration advisor, this position trains and supervises junior advising staff.

Required Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree (conferred on an official transcript at the time of application.) plus two years of full-time professional experience within international student services field



OR

  • Bachelor’s degree (conferred on an official transcript at the time of application.) plus five years of professional experience in international student services.

  • Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a diverse population of students, families, and professionals.

  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement collaborative programming within higher education, international services, or student support services.

  • Working knowledge and experience with student records systems and learning management software.

  • Minimum 2 years SEVIS experience as DSO/ARO including immigration advising for F-1 and J-1 students and their dependents. (In order to serve in this role, you must either be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the U.S.)

  • Ability to speak a non-English language.

  • Specialized knowledge and experience implementing best practices in student advising.

  • Ability to articulate the impact of international student experience on university life and future careers.

  • Specialized knowledge regarding history and culture of international students and their needs in higher education.

  • Articulate approach to intercultural development and resolving cross-cultural conflict.



Other Requirements:
Work safely at all times, which includes but is not limited to, participating and completing all required safety trainings, as well as performing all job tasks in accordance with Minnesota State University, Mankato policies and procedures utilizing appropriate tools, equipment and personal protective equipment.

Required to work occasionally during weekends and evenings to provide retention activities, events, etc. Must be willing to adjust personal schedule to meet demands of unexpected crisis, programs, and activities outside of the University workday.

Based upon this position’s essential functions, it reports to Kearney International Center, 5 days a week, and does not have the option of telework. Telework is at the discretion of management and defined and implemented in accordance with HR/LR Policy #1422 (Telework Policy).
