The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences in the Waters College of Health Professions at the Armstrong Campus of Georgia Southern University has an opening for a visiting instructor position in physical therapy for academic year 2022-2023.

In the Physical Therapy program, students engage in a variety of instructional methods, all with the goal of teaching them to critically and skillfully apply evidence-based practice in an evolving and dynamic healthcare environment. Clinical experiences are integrated throughout the program to refine knowledge and skills and develop a high level of professional communication and behavior. The overall intent of all of the curricular activities is for graduates to actively engage in their own professional development, as well as the improvement of the physical therapy profession and the health of society. The Department of Rehabilitation Sciences also houses the bachelor's degree in Rehabilitation Sciences and some members of the Physical Therapy faculty also teach in that program.

Position Description: Reporting to the department chair, the visiting instructor of Physical Therapy will teach courses independently and/or as part of a physical therapy faculty team. The primary responsibility is teaching. This is an academic year appointment for the months of August 2022-May 2023. All visiting positions are non-tenure track appointments for up to two years, with the possibility of reappointment and/or a summer teaching contract based on funding availability, satisfactory performance, and Program needs. The second year is a terminal year, without exception. The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Required Qualifications:
  • Earned doctorate which includes the DPT in physical therapy
  • An active, unrestricted PT license and eligibility for a Georgia PT license
  • Contemporary expertise beyond entry-level education in at least one of the following:
  • adult rehabilitation focused on problems affecting the cardiopulmonary, musculoskeletal, vestibular, lymphatic, neurologic, genitourinary systems
  • acute care
  • electrodiagnostics
  • prosthetics
  • professionalism, communication, documentation, reimbursement
  • evidence-based practice
  • leadership and practice management
  • Willingness to engage with institutional student success initiatives.
  • Commitment to engaging with best practice initiatives in instruction and pedagogy, mentoring, and curriculum design and development.
  • A demonstrated history of working collaboratively and collegially with physical therapy colleagues.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • An earned academic doctorate (e.g. DHS, EdD, PhD)
  • Physical therapy certification in a specialty area
  • Experience in one or more of the following:
  • physical therapist clinical instructor
  • site coordinator for physical therapy clinical education
  • full-time teaching/administration in a physical therapist or physical therapist assistant program
  • teaching in some other sustained professional or academic capacity

    Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution
  • All work (with limited exceptions such as research and study abroad and outside activities such as grading and email correspondence) for Georgia Southern University must be completed while the employee is physically present in the state of Georgia, unless specifically authorized by the university for a specific purpose and limited period of time within current policy.
  • Faculty are expected to contribute to the vibrant university community by engaging students, participating in events, and performing other responsibilities on-campus
  • Faculty may be required to teach, conduct research, or perform service duties on any of the three campuses. Georgia Southern provides accessible transportation options between campuses.
