The University of Maine at Augusta is seeking applicants for the full-time position of Learning Experience Design Librarian. The Learning Experience Design Librarian will provide guidance, planning, and support to advance UMA Library’s educational role within the University, and foster effective and meaningful collaboration across the University and within the Teaching and Learning Commons. They will actively participate with and engage faculty and students to nurture thriving partnerships within a learning environment whose service excellence is grounded by its commitment to fostering a culture of collaboration, exploration, creation, and mastery. They will support the administration of the learning management system (LMS) and provide educational development to ensure the continual improvement of teaching and learning outcomes within multiple modes of distance learning. They will model and further effective instructional design and learning outcomes assessment practices in partnership with faculty and educational support colleagues. They will partner with Learning Experience Designers (LXD) and the Faculty Development Center in furthering collegial and effective partnerships with Informational Technology (IT) to achieve seamless, reliable, and responsive client services, with particular emphasis on the learning management environment, digital pedagogy, and scholarship.  A full position description can be found online here.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree from an American Library Association accredited program (or non-U.S. equivalent) and one year of relevant service in libraries, 
  • Demonstrated experience with instructional design in higher education or corporate setting
  • Strong commitment to service distance library users and willingness to advocate for their needs
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and instruction skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with multiple priorities consecutively and sequentially and ability to meet quality standards for accuracy, attention to detail, and timeliness
  • Ability to use and explain a wide variety of library-related software applications including the integrated library system, common Google Suite for Education applications, research databases, chat/email “Ask-A-Librarian” software, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to develop learning objectives using various educational technology tools, such as Camtasia, Adobe Creative Suite applications, and Learning Management Systems (e.g. Brightspace)
  • Possess working knowledge of copyright law pertaining to public institutions of higher education
  • Familiarity with the principles of Universal Design for Learning and willingness to apply them in the design of learning objectives, instruction sessions, and workshops.
  • Possess a strong capacity for self-motivation and the ability to work independently
  • Willingness and ability to travel and provide own transportation as necessary
  • Demonstrated experience with instructional design


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of Section 508 and applicable ADA guidelines and optimal practices of universal design for learning
  • Experience with eLearning authoring tools
  • Experience working in academic libraries
  • Extensive computer skills, including web applications
  • Experience working with adult learners
  • Experience designing online courses in higher education
  • Experience teaching online
  • Participate in professional and scholarly organizations

Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, evenings and weekends as necessary.
