Job Duties:
The Athens State University Security Officer will report to the Chief of Security for providing security for the university. The officer shall provide courteous aid to visitors and students.
  • Assist students, faculty, staff and visitors in locating buildings and other general information
  • Safeguard equipment and buildings
  • Lock buildings, secure windows, turn off unnecessary lights
  • Make visual and physical checks of buildings, parking lots and grounds at intervals by vehicle and on foot
  • Inspect areas of safety hazards
  • Be knowledgeable of campus rules and regulations
  • Maintain traffic and parking enforcement

    Required Qualifications:
    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
    •Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
    •A high school diploma or its equivalent
    •Alabama Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission Certification
    •Firearms certification
    •Law enforcement related experience
    •Valid Alabama Driver’s license
    ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:· Physical agility and ability to perform general law enforcement duties

    Located in historic Athens, Alabama, Athens State University offers junior and senior-level coursework to community college graduates and transfer students holding sufficient credits from other institutions. Presently, over 3,100 students have selected Athens State because of its neighborly environment where 50 majors and degree programs are offered, with courses taught by a supportive and exceptional faculty. Approximately 80% of the students are enrolled in at least one online course. The typical student is a working adult who commutes.
