The Dana Center for Preventive Ophthalmology at the Wilmer Eye Institute seeks a motivated full-time Research Assistant to provide day-to-day support on research, administrative and technical activities to the team of the Coordinating Center of multicenter studies in eye diseases and provide protocol support to collaborating clinical sites and study units for an NIH sponsored multicenter international clinical trial on inherited retinal degeneration. The Research Assistant will play an important role in facilitating an efficient, collaborative work environment at the Coordinating Center and facilitating professional and collaborative communications with Study Chair and Vice-Chair, clinical sites and other study units. The Research Assistant will be familiar with study protocols and Coordinating Center responsibilities and workflows regarding data and information management and administrative activities.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

  • To maintain an electronic registry of staff names, addresses, telephone numbers, FAX numbers, and e-mail addresses for study personnel at all study units
  • To data enter SAE reporting forms received from clinical sites
  • To email appointment reminders and notices to Study Coordinators each month
  • To file study-related forms and reports in a secure location
  • To query clinical site staff about missing and delinquent forms
  • To maintain a history file of all revisions of all forms
  • To maintain a current version of the MOP and distribute updates to all relevant study sites
  • To maintain a history file of all versions of the MOP
  • To print mailing labels for all NAC Attack personnel when requested
  • To assist with the preparation and assembly of reports
  • To maintain the Coordinating Center Handbook of Policy and Procedures
  • To assist Coordinating Center team members as necessary to meet the needs of the Study
  • To place orders for materials and track their status
  • To develop layout and final copy for special study materials such as newsletters
  • To make travel arrangements for Coordinating Center personnel and for members of various NAC Attack committees
  • To schedule meetings for Coordinating Center personnel and for members of various NAC Attack committees
  • To oversee preparation and assembly of Study documents and reports
  • To maintain office supplies for the Coordinating Center
  • To make arrangements for Study meetings, including contacting hotels, reserving rooms, arranging transportations, arranging meeting venues, and authorizing payment of bills after approval of the Coordinating Center Director
  • To provide administrative and technical support

Minimum Qualifications (Mandatory):

    Bachelor’s Degree in related discipline and some related work experience Additional education may substitute for required experience and additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula*

* JHU Equivalency Formula: 18 graduate degree credits (semester hours) may substitute for one year of experience.  Additional related experience may substitute for the required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.

** Applicants who do not meet the posted requirements but are completing their final academic semester/quarter will be considered eligible for employment and may be asked to provide additional information confirming their academic completion date.

    Work experience (full-time or half-time) with multicenter studies

Special Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    Demonstrably strong organizational skills with attention to detail and independent follow through Facility with Microsoft software (e.g. Excel, Outlook, Teams), general computer and communications skills including telecommunications (e.g. Zoom meetings) Knowledge of or capacity to quickly gain familiarity with Redcap and other software programs as needed Flexibility with evolving study protocol and workflows Ability to shift between in-person and remote work as needed Able to positively contribute to a diverse workplace
