Vacancy Number: S-00914 Position Title: Associate Director of ESL (English as a Second Language Program) Classification Title: Associate Director Department: Global Initiatives Employment Type: Full-Time Duties and Responsibilities:
  • This position will provide management in all aspects of planning and operations for the ESL Unit.
  • The Associate Director will be tasked with recruitment for continuous growth in enrollment, and ensuring students are in compliance with all regulations set by US immigration laws and regulations.
  • The position will supervise ESL student Services Coordinator
  • Work closely with staff on the development of curriculum, and learning expectations consistent with the mission and vision of ESL and Auburn Montgomery at large.
  • Responsible for hiring and managing personnel effectively and efficiently.
  • Serve as a positive mentor to ESL instructors and staff, advice, and register ESL students for courses.
  • Create an ESL calendar and course schedule for each term.
  • Meet deadlines and goals of the business plan within the ESL Unit.
  • Work with the Director of OGI to ensure the international community has a positive University Experience.
  • Organize events like live video chats to contact the new incoming students.
  • Work closely with Managers & Coordinators to ensure the IELTS testing Center runs efficiently.
  • Coordinate and conduct all administrative operations of the AUM IELTS Test Center in compliance with IELTS USA and AUM operating policies and procedures (this includes weekend work of at least two Saturdays per month)
  • Conduct regular internal audits to ensure the AUM IELTS Testing Center remains audit-ready and work with external auditors to ensure the AUM IELTS Testing Center is in strict compliance with globally consistent testing procedures and IELTS USA policies and regulations, as well as AUM operating policies and procedures
  • Coordinate and conduct all pre-test operational procedures in compliance with IELTS USA and AUM operating policies and procedures, including registering and processing candidate applications, verifying application materials, scheduling test day staff, reserving the testing venue, and all other necessary administrative tasks associated with pre-test procedures
  • Coordinate and conduct all test day operations in compliance with IELTS USA and AUM policies and operating procedures, including overseeing the administration the IELTS test, managing test day personnel, securing all testing materials and candidate personal belongings, collecting timesheets from test day staff, and all other necessary administrative tasks associated with test day procedures.
  • Coordinate and conduct all post-test operational procedures in compliance with IELTS USA and AUM operating policies and procedures, including entering and/or confirming IELTS test scores, ensuring all OMRs, Speaking Interviews, Writing Tasks, and Jaggeds are scored and processed according to the established timeline, and all other necessary administrative tasks associated with post-test day procedures
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with other offices on the University campus to ensure the international community has a positive University experience.
  • Create positive visibility of the AUM ESL department to the campus constituencies, community, and globally.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Professional working knowledge of ESL approaches and methodologies, including assessment, testing/measurement principles, ESL teacher training and instructional material design and development.
  • Knowledge of basic word processing software and the ability to operate standard PC/PC software applications
  • Knowledge of applicable university policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal rules and regulations
  • Knowledge of budgeting principles and practices
  • Knowledge of acceptable supervisory practices
  • Knowledge of public relations and marketing strategies
  • Technical knowledge and abilities specifically related to the core content area of ESL
  • Strong verbal and written skills, comfortable and enthusiastic in a wide range of cultural groups and effective in building cross-cultural relationships.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Education, English, TESOL, Linguistics, or other related fields, M.A preferred in related fields. Minimum five (5) years of experience in teaching and/or administration, including curriculum design, testing placement, and evaluation of students, scheduling courses and class assignments, or related experience with multi-cultural groups is required. Management/supervisory experience is required; preferably in an educational setting with international students.
