Position Summary and Primary Responsibilities:
Join a research team applying cutting-edge proteomics and peptidomics research in biomedical research. Expand your omic background applied in addressing pathological mechanism related to neurodegenerative disease. As a postdoctoral scholar you will be responsible, with training, for designing studies, optimizing methods, performing analytical analyses, data processing and bioinformatic interrogation of results together with performing validation experiments. Further training in scientific and grant writing, leadership and project management will be provided.
The opportunity compensates scholars at the NIH postdoctoral salary along with full health insurance and vacation benefits. Virginia Commonwealth University is a major research institution with $330 million in annual funded activity and is located in Richmond, VA, an affordable city that is attractive to young professionals.
Required Qualifications:
The candidate should have recently completed their Ph.D. in a relevant area and have had some exposure to omic approaches, statistics, and bioinformatics tools. A demonstrated record of scientific publication and presentation is needed. Applicants must be able to work with biospecimens and biofluids from human and animal sources.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with scripting, statistical (e.g., R) and bioinformatic (e.g., cytoskape, metaboanalyst, etc) packages in handling omic datasets is preferred. Past experience processing biofluids, tissues, and with performing immunochemical assays (blotting, microscopy, ELISA) is also beneficial.
This is a restricted position with no set end date and continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.

Salary Range: $53,760 – $58,608
