The Kansas Small Business Development Center program increases economic prosperity in Kansas by providing free consultation services and affordable training to entrepreneurs and small business owners. The Advisor plays a key role in this effort by providing expert consulting and classroom training to current and prospective business owners in Johnson, Miami and Wyandotte counties.
Job Duties
Job duties include but are not limited to:
- BUSINESS ADVISING - Provide individual counseling and assistance to clients in areas including: business plan development, financial projections, cash flow analysis, market research, marketing plan development, internet marketing, strategic plan development, succession planning, human resources issues, and other areas of business development. Educate clients on funding sources and accessing capital. Visit a client's place of businesses when appropriate.
- CLIENT RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT & ECONOMIC IMPACT - Demonstrate effective interaction skills to accurately diagnose clients' readiness and needs. Understand strategies, processes, and systems that support recruitment of new clients, client satisfaction and retention, and maximum economic impact. Maintain online client files to federally required standards.
- PROGRAM & TRAINING DEVELOPMENT - Work collaboratively with team to develop specialty programs for existing clients, including Strategic Planning, Exit Planning, Export, and others. Create educational materials and marketing collateral to support deployment of specialty services to appropriate clients. Develop, coordinate and conduct monthly training seminars and approximately two regional/national conferences targeting the needs of area small businesses. Create curriculum, articles, social media content and other materials to support SBDC seminars and conferences.
- COMMUNITY & GOVERNMENT RELATIONS - Promote general awareness of the Kansas SBDC and ]CCC programs by: making presentations to area organizations; arranging for media coverage for clients; attending ]CCC functions; participating in regional networking events; and involvement in local professional organizations. Write ''Success Stories" about Kansas SBDC clients. Participate and assist with client coordination for special events, such as the annual Emerging, Existing & Exporting Business ceremonies in Topeka. Build effective working relationships with area agencies and government representatives that provide assistance to small businesses through visits lo their locations and participation in joint projects.

Scheduling, shift assignments and work location may be changed at any time, as required by business necessity.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in business or business related discipline OR Bachelors with two years experience OR six years experience
Minimum of five years experience in business management, consulting, administration, financial analysis, or economic development.
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Strong analytical ability
Strong ability to work self-directed and within a team handling multiple projects and clients at the same time
Proficiency in computer skills with Microsoft-related products
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in at least three of the following areas: developing business or strategic plans; developing loan packages or equity proposals; financial analysis including cash flow analysis; Internet marketing or e-commerce; product development; business management instruction or training; owning or managing a business; providing consultation services to businesses
