Position Information

Position Title Assistant Director of Recreational Sports - Intramurals Overview
Direct the activities of the departments Intramural Sports and Weekend/Late Night Program offerings. Essential Duties:
1. Market, schedule, and provide oversight of all aspects of the College’s intramural program while advising and directing the Intramural Athletic Board ( IAB ) to ensure that a comprehensive and safe intramural sport schedule is offered to the campus community. Ensure that risk management issues related to intramurals are addressed, including participation waivers, condition of fields and facilities, and quality of officiating.

2. Hire, train, and schedule all intramural supervisors, officials, and scorekeepers. Oversee the day-to-day oversight and development of all intramural employees.

3. Plan, oversee, and implement comprehensive late night/weekend programming options, including weekend intramural leagues. Create positive relations with the Athletic Department and other campus constituencies, while upholding the integrity of PRC as the College’s primary recreation facility. Provide proper fiscal oversight of programming budget and coordinate marketing efforts. Facilitate facility scheduling and logistics related to transportation to off-campus events. Coordinate departmental offerings with divisional programming efforts.

4. Assist the director and associate director with the overall daily operation of the Peterson Recreational Center and the Concannon Fitness Center. Assist with the development and enforcement of policies which govern the facility, as well as assist with maintenance, oversight, and scheduling of Hendricken field. Collaborate with the director on facility issues concerning risk management and access concerns.

5. Schedule regular inventories of both equipment in storage and in circulation, thus keeping accurate records of all intramural athletic equipment. Make recommendations and work closely with the director on appropriate utilization of the budget’s equipment line.

6. Provide oversight of all assessment efforts as they relate to the intramural program and related participation. Track overall program participation, while tracking participation in various categories such as class year, gender, and majority and non-majority students. Communicate regularly with the director concerning participation trends and related marketing efforts. Marginal Duties:
Perform all other duties as may be required. Education and Experience Required
• Bachelor degree from an accredited institution required, Master’s preferred.
• Two to three years’ of professional experience in college recreational sports administration, preferably with a focus in intramurals.
• Experience working with management of a comprehensive recreational facility
• Ability to advise student groups and encourage student leadership to emerge
• Ability to successfully train and motivate student employees and part-time professional staff to perform their duties and feel part of the management team
• Ability to successfully communicate with a variety of constituencies ranging from students to faculty and administrators
• Ability to undertake risk management assessments of intramural and recreational activities and make appropriate recommendations to bring programs into compliance
• Ability to plan, conduct, and evaluate recreational and instructional programs for a variety of participants
• Diverse competency in computer and software applications
• First aid and CPR certified and NJRSA certification valued Physical Demands
• Sitting in a normal seated position for extended periods of time
• Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction
• Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s), for example, using a keyboard
• Communication skills using the spoken word
• Ability to see within normal parameters
• Ability to hear within normal range
