Job Summary

The Postdoctoral Researcher will perform bench research projects on SARS-COV-2 and HIV. Prepare peer reviewed manuscripts. Contribute to grant funding proposal writing and participate in group research planning. The Postdoctoral Researcher will also mentor students and other members of the research group.

Essential Functions

The Postdoctoral Research will perform bench research projects:
  • Handle cells and pseudotyped viruses for experiments on SARS-COV-2 and HIV cell entry inhibition.
  • Utilize lab equipment including surface plasmon resonance biosensor, centrifuges, luminometer, plate reader and flow cytometer to perform experiments on cells and pseudotyped viruses.
  • Analyze data from lab experiments to validate or disprove hypotheses about HIV-1 entry inhibition and infection inhibition mechanisms
Prepare peer reviewed manuscripts:
  • Compile and distill research data into figures for publications
  • Write manuscripts describing research experiments, results, and conclusions for journal submission
  • Communicate with journal editors during the submission process to answer reviewer questions and usher manuscripts toward publication
Contribute to grant funding proposal writing:
  • Prepare research data for presentation in NIH grant proposals and reports
  • Write and edit sections in NIH grant proposals and reports, including project aims, experimental design, approach, and preliminary data
  • Manage publication data entry to comply with NIH/NCBI grant reporting requirements
Participate in group research planning:
  • Advise members of research group on experimental design, presented data, and conclusions
  • Maintain instrumentation for use by the research group
Mentor students and other members of the research group:
  • Teach use of instrumentation to research group members
  • Directly mentor new lab members/rotation students in lab practices, experimental design, and project planning
  • Analyze, review, and advise on experiments performed and data obtained by lab members
Required Qualifications
  • MD, PhD, equivalent doctoral degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology
  • Minimum of 4 years laboratory research experience
  • Experience with a variety of complex analytical and technical laboratory experiments
  • Operation of standard research lab equipment and computer hardware and software
