Department Summary
The Creative Writing Program at the University of Oregon is a freestanding and diverse program within the College of Arts and Sciences, with strengths in poetry and literary fiction and a record of excellence in our MFA program. The Program offers both a minor in creative writing and a Master of Fine Arts while emphasizing the workshop and integrating concentrated time for writing with craft seminars. Undergraduate offerings within the Creative Writing Program also include the Kidd Program, a unique studio experience that emphasizes literary analysis in both poetry and prose fiction, craft-related topics of concern to the college-level creative writer, and an engagement with rigorous critical discourse.
Position Summary
This position will teach graduate and undergraduate creative writing courses (up to five courses total), and will also be engaged in directing five individual tutorials for first-year MFA students. The Visiting Assistant professor will also provide program service i.e., Craft Talk for undergraduates in the Kidd Workshops, and participate in the program's Reading Series.
Minimum Requirements
  • MFA, PhD, or MA in Creative Writing or comparable field
  • At least one published collection of poetry from a nationally recognized press
  • Evidence of strong teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Poetry fellowships, awards, and/or publications in top-tier journals
  • Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
  • Interest in teaching poetry that explores socio-cultural difference (e.g., race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, nationality, or disability)
