The OHIO University Department of English seeks multiple teaching faculty in composition who have a deep commitment to fostering the growth and development of student writing. These Assistant Professor of Instruction positions are full-time, nine month, benefitted positions, for the term of one year. These positions are potentially renewable dependent on department need and demonstrated success. The teaching load is typically eight in-person courses per academic year on a semester schedule. The primary emphasis will be teaching first-year composition courses, typically capped at 22 students. There may also be opportunity to teach upper-division composition courses or other introductory courses within English studies and to mentor graduate students. Specialization is open; however, we are particularly interested in candidates with expertise in Appalachian, multilingual, queer, or cultural rhetorics and/or race and/or rhetorical theory. We also welcome candidates with additional specialization in creative writing.

Minimum Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Writing, Rhetoric, or Composition Studies; English; or closely related field; or MFA in Creative Writing, with at least two years of successful experience teaching undergraduate composition by the start date.

Preferred Qualifications:  Graduate coursework in composition pedagogy, theory, research, and history or the clear equivalent professional expertise as demonstrated through publications, conference presentations, etc.
