Job Description:

APPOINTMENT: 07/01/2022

RESPONSIBILITIES: The assistant coach for track and field / cross country is responsible for assisting the head coach with the conduct of practices and meets, working on individual player development, assisting with recruitment and contact of prospective student-athletes, promoting and maintaining positive public relations, plus other duties as assigned by the head coach. Successful candidate must be committed to academic success of student-athletes and be committed to their personal growth and social development. Successful candidate must be fully committed to all NCAA, The Summit League, and Western Illinois University Athletics Department policies and procedures.

Requirements:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree; Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills; collegiate coaching or playing experience; proven record of successfully recruiting academically and athletically prepared student-athletes; proven record of adherence to all NCAA compliance regulations; valid drivers license; must be able to work nights and weekends.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Demonstrated experience coaching horizontal jumps, multis, and/or short sprints at the NCAA level; Experience Demonstrated competitive success and technical expertise in the instruction associated with cross country and track and field events.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be conferred at the time of appointment.

Academics

More than 61 undergraduate degree programs, 40 graduate programs, two doctoral programs and 13 post-baccalaureate certificate programs prepare students for a successful career after graduation.

Student Resources

There are more than 200 student organizations at Western that provide social, academic, recreation, sports, service, and many other opportunities for students to grow and learn, develop leadership skills, and much more. WIU Intercollegiate Athletics

The University's athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's varsity sports. Football competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision through the Missouri Valley Football Conference; all other varsity sports compete at the Division I level through The Summit League.
