Job Summary
The Architectural Engineering (AREN) group is accepting applications for a Research Associate!. The successful candidate is expected to manage the operation and maintenance of the existing Architectural Engineering (AREN) facilities, including the newly renovated Larson HVAC Laboratory. The candidate is also expected to recruit industrial members to be engaged in the activities of the newly established Building Energy Smart Technologies (BEST) Center. The candidate has further opportunities to initiate and participate in various teaching and research activities as well as strengthening the involvement of the industry with the AREN program at the University of Colorado.

Who We Are
The candidate will be part of the Architectural Engineering (AREN) group which is part of the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering. Faculty members of the AREN program teach and conduct research in various areas related to building systems engineering, including thermal sciences, electrical systems, construction materials, and smart controls with a focus on integrated and innovative solutions for designing and operating sustainable buildings and urban communities. AREN program has three main laboratories used for both teaching and research activities including the Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Larson Laboratory, lighting laboratory, and the materials and structure laboratory. In addition, the AREN program houses the Building Energy Smart Technologies (BEST) Center that is funded by National Science Foundation to foster collaborations between the industry and universities to advance the state-of-knowledge for sustainable, resilient, and intelligent built environment.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
- Direct the operation and improvement of the HVAC Larson Laboratory as well as other AREN testing facilities.
- Act as the industry liaison with the industry partners for the newly established Building Energy Smart Technologies (BEST) center to maintain and recruit new members.
- Attract external funding to fully use Larson laboratory as well as other AREN facilities.
- Contribute to the education and research activities of the laboratories, including offering lab-based courses/modules, and assisting faculty, undergraduate and graduate students in using laboratories for their teaching and research needs.

What We Can Offer
The salary range associated with this position is $80,000 to $95,000 per year.

What We Require
- At least 5 years of professional experience in building energy systems with specific expertise in designing, operating, and testing heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems commonly used in commercial buildings.
- Ph.D. in Architectural, Mechanical, or other related engineering fields.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong knowledge of the building energy industry.
- Experience in interacting with both professional and students.
- Previous managerial skills as well as have conducted some experimental and testing projects related to building energy systems.
