Position Summary
The Associate Director of Apprenticeships and Custom Training is responsible for the creation, implementation and management of the Washburn University Institute of Technology (Washburn Tech) registered apprenticeship program.
Essential Job Functions of Position
- Develop, establish and coordinate registered apprenticeship programs for Washburn Tech.
- Cultivate, engage and encourage area business and industry partners to participate in apprenticeships and custom training opportunities.
- Serve as the primary point of contact and liaison with apprentices, instructors, employers, sponsors, and the Kansas Department of Commerce Registered Apprenticeship office for class logistics (registration, contracts, payments, attendance, grades, etc.).
- Respond to queries from employers, students, and the general public concerning apprenticeship programs.
- In collaboration with academic managers, maintain apprentice schedule, attendance, grade, and course/program completion records. Disseminate information as required to various stakeholders.
- Provide case management services for apprentices, clarify program requirements, and create academic plans. Coordinate class registration for new and returning apprentices.
- Assist in ensuring the third-party payment authorization process is implemented for applicable apprentices/sponsors.
- Research grants and other funding opportunities to support custom training and apprenticeship program.
- Work with leadership within the department to produce custom training activities for area business and industry partners.
- Actively participate in program advisory committees as assigned.
- Work closely with the Kansas Department of Commerce Registered Apprenticeship office to get new apprenticeships registered.
- Work with area companies and organizations to establish new apprenticeships Attend required meetings and in-service activities.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned or as appropriate.
Education and Experience
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in education, business, or related field. A combination of education and occupational experience in apprenticeship-related programming may be considered.
Two (2) years of work experience as a manager or higher in business or higher education apprenticeship programming
Three (3) years of work experience in developing curricula or training programs for educational or industry workforce sectors.
Experience with state and federal workforce grants and apprenticeship programs.
Supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in education, business, or related field
Five (5) years of work experience in business or higher education apprenticeship programming at the manager or higher level.
Five (5) years of work experience in developing curricula or training programs for educational or industry workforce sectors.
Three (3) years of experience with state and federal workforce grants and apprenticeship programs.
Three (3) years of supervisory experience
