Buffalo State, State University of New York, seeks candidates for the position of Assistant Vice President in Marketing and Communications Office

As the college’s Assistant Vice President for marketing and communications, lead an award-winning team responsible for institutional advertising (traditional and digital), brand development and target marketing, creative services (graphic design, publications, photography, and video services), digital communications (organic and paid social media), internal communications, media relations, web services (content, design, and development), as well as communication support for Institutional Advancement (alumni magazine, annual report, etc.).

As the college’s chief marketing officer, provide oversight and stewardship for Buffalo State’s brand identity, development, and messaging (internal and external) in alignment with the college’s mission, vision, and strategic plan. To inform this process, oversee regular brand and market research, and create effective partnerships across multiple constituents including students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the Western New York community.

Establish and execute integrated marketing, branding, and communication plans designed to raise the college’s profile, attract a diverse, high-achieving student population, and engage alumni, donors, and community members while supporting and integrating with the college’s mission and vision.

Work closely with Undergraduate and Graduate Admissions to support multi-faceted student recruitment efforts.

Work alongside the Vice President for Enrollment Management to facilitate and lead campus planning discussions to build consensus around enrollment, recruitment, and marketing initiatives.

Provide counsel, goals, and strategic directions to senior administration on marketing, public relations, and internal/external communication issues for the college.

Serve as the chief spokesperson for the college as necessary.

Reports to the Vice President for Enrollment Management.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communication, public relations, marketing, business administration, education, public administration, or related field.
  • Progressive experience in communications, marketing, brand development, or public relations for a large, complex enterprise which serves multiple publics.
  • Successful track record implementing major advertising and brand management campaign(s).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing and supervising a multifaceted marketing or communication team.
  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with a wide variety of constituents (i.e., senior administrators, faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, and community leaders).
  • Demonstrated experience with crisis communication, metrics/assessment, project management for communication projects, public/media relations, and social media.
  • A strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Effective budget management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Marketing or communications leadership experience in a higher education setting.
  • Experience serving as spokesperson for an organization.
  • Experience with internal communication for a large, complex organization.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and managing comprehensive traditional and digital advertising campaigns.
  • Experience with advancement/fundraising communication.
  • Extensive experience with new forms of media delivery and digital-first strategies.
