Job Summary:

The Department of Radiation Oncology, Division of Medical Physics, at the Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA, is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to perform cutting-edge research in medical physics, specifically on the topic of MR-linear accelerator system optimization for radiotherapy. The research study aims at developing and analyzing novel approaches & techniques to optimizing treatment plan quality & delivery utilizing the 0.35T ViewRay MR-linac system.

Required Qualifications:

· Graduate level degree (PhD preferred) in physics, engineering, computer science, applied math, or a related field

· Motivated to work under interdisciplinary settings and with major vendors

· Strong writing skills

· Demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion or a commitment to do so as an employee at VCU

Preferred Qualifications:

· Exposure to radiotherapy planning & treatment

· Experience in medical imaging

· Experience in scientific programming and computational methods

· Coursework or experience in optimization

· Coursework or experience in statistical analysis

· Track record of research and publications

· Research background in medical physics, engineering, computer science, or related field

Job Training:

This is a fully funded, two-year, full-time, mentored research position in medical physics. The successful candidate will receive regular mentorship, be given bountiful of opportunities to publish the findings in major national conferences and peer-reviewed journals, and to seek extramural research funding. The department also operates a CAMPEP-accredited graduate and certificate programs where the candidate may be given opportunities to take course(s) for credit such to further their careers in the field.

Facility and Equipment:


Our lab works on pre-clinical, high potential to be translated, approaches to improving radiation therapy. We have access to high-end servers (CPU & GPU), lab space, offices, collaboration with major vendors, and the necessary clinical systems including ViewRay, Varian, and Canon. With an in-house CAMPEP-accredited graduate & certificate programs creates an interdisciplinary environment for sharing ideas, data, equipment, and infrastructure amongst faculty, researchers, and students.

This is a restricted position with no set end date and continued employment is dependent upon project need, availability of funding, and performance.

Salary Range: $54,835-$55,227
