Job Description

The Columbia Missouri (MU) site of the UMKC School of Pharmacy is looking for a part time Office Support Assistant with exceptional problem solving skills and ability to build and maintain effective professional relationships. Successful candidates will work to support our distance classrooms. Qualified candidates will have a strong sense of follow through and work ethic, impeccable customer service skills and strong teamwork abilities. Must be adaptable and flexible in an environment that is growing and changing daily.

The UMKC School of Pharmacy at MU utilizes long distance teaching technology to simultaneously teach to our students on the Kansas City (UMKC) campus, the Columbia (MU) campus and the Springfield (MSU) campus. This position is located on the University of Missouri (Columbia) campus with classes in the Academic Support Center, Lewis Hall, and several other locations across the MU campus. Our system allows the professor to be physically present at one of the three campuses and communicate simultaneously with all groups of students through a long-distance transmission system. Microphones and cameras in the classroom allow the three classes to actively interact with each other. The ideal candidate for this position will be able to facilitate classroom activities and perform basic trouble shooting strategies with the long-distance technology. This position is responsible for assisting the professor and local support staff with classroom activities that are occurring in the classroom in Columbia. Knowledge of pharmacy or healthcare is not requisite since the focus is on assisting the professor and monitoring the classroom/technology.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES
Applications are being sought for an Office Support Assistant III at the Columbia Missouri (MU) site of the UMKC School of Pharmacy Division of Pharmacy Practice and Administration to work as a Classroom Assistant. The positions are physically located in Columbia, Missouri on the MU Campus. Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Operate a personal computer to communicate with office support staff and faculty.
  • Independently compose correspondence in order to respond to administrative office inquiries using own knowledge of office policies and procedures.
  • Accept work/directions from program office staff and faculty in order to complete work assignments in a timely manner by following supervisory instructions and by adjusting the workload to meet established work priorities.
  • Coordinate weekly with other Classroom Assistants and School of Pharmacy at MU Support Staff to make sure there is adequate daily coverage of classroom activities. This requires some schedule flexibility as the classroom activity demands change from week to week.
  • Provide course/classroom support (manage course materials, intercampus mailings, review instructor instructions, etc) which includes but is not limited to:
  • Arriving and preparing for class a minimum of 15 minutes ahead of scheduled class time, including time to pick up materials from the Pharmacy School offices on the 8th floor of Lewis Hall.
  • Organizing/distributing/collecting/returning of classroom materials, e.g. quizzes, handouts, exam materials. Return of materials to the Pharmacy School offices on the 8th floor of Lewis Hall
  • Facilitating/proctoring classroom activities and written/computer based quizzes and exams during class and during finals week
  • Facilitating intercampus student-related meetings.
  • Monitoring classroom behavior to facilitate a positive learning environment
  • Monitor and provide basic trouble shooting for the video and audio connection between the Columbia campus and the Kansas City and Springfield campuses.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • At least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary
Full Time/Part Time

Part time, up to 27 hours per week.

Salary

$11.54 to $15.56 per hour, commensurate with experience, education, and internal equity.
