The Department of Materials Science and NanoEngineering (MSNE) at Rice University in Houston, Texas, invites applications from diverse hires for a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure-track Professor in the Practice position beginning either the Fall 2022 semester (preferred) or the Spring 2023 semester. The initial term of appointment is one academic year, which may be renewed contingent upon performance.

The primary responsibilities of this Professor in the Practice (PiP) will be to teach undergraduate courses in both classroom and laboratory settings. The department is especially interested in persons with experience in teaching in materials science disciplines, laboratory skills, and preferably who has some research experience. Candidates should have experience in areas such as mechanical and thermodynamic characterization of materials, materials processing and manufacturing, and materials design projects. Experience working in industry is a must. In addition to teaching, the person hired will also be play a role in MSNE’s ABET accreditation process and will work with other faculty in the department to facilitate this process. The department is looking for a candidate who may grow in this role, becoming an integral part of the MSNE undergraduate experience.
