Position Summary

The Executive Director of Recruiting and Admissions at the Jones Graduate School of Business provides vision and strategic direction for prospect recruiting, enrollment management, and communications. This position has responsibility for development, oversight, and management of all Rice Business enrollment, recruiting and related marketing communications programs, as well as administration of student financial aid disbursement. The Executive Director, Recruiting and Admissions manages a team of professionals employed to accomplish these tasks and supports large and complex partnerships with third-party suppliers of student search, enrollment, and recruiting services. Of preeminent importance is substantial expertise in managing others to meet enrollment goals. Thorough knowledge of and experience with current technologies and platforms for managing a funnel of business, which would include a thorough understanding and use of CRM systems. The Executive Director of Recruiting and Admissions is responsible for the development of marketing resources and strategic campaigns for student recruitment, including social media, web-based communications, web site management for recruitment purposes, and printed materials. The Executive Director of Recruiting and Admissions reports to the Associate Dean of Degree Programs and is responsible for enrollment stability and strategic enrollment growth in all MBA programs and across all delivery platforms of Rice Business.

Ideal candidates should have extensive skills and experience in leading teams of sales or recruiting personnel to achieve sales/enrollment quotas. Ideal candidates will have demonstrated achievement in creating and monitoring success against process goals in order to achieve sales or enrollment quotas.

Essential Functions
  • Directs and mentors staff, develops and coordinates orientation and training programs
  • Leads development and implementation of long-term strategic plans, annual long-range plan efforts, development of business practices, and organizational change to improves processes and workflow
  • Chairs admission committees; makes high level management, evaluative and programmatic decisions
  • Reads, evaluates and recommends high level admission
  • Develops and delivers outreach programs in local, national and international communities
  • Ensures compliance with federal and state laws regarding college admission, FERPA, and affirmative action
  • Oversees enrollment data collection, develops and reviews reports and analyses, manages admission program budget
  • Responsible for technology including evaluation, development and implementation based on department needs
  • Serves as a key member of management team
  • Managed team(s) of sales/recruiting personnel to achieve quota(s).
  • Mastery of setting and monitoring process goals to achieve annual quotas
  • Adept at gap analysis and creating specific measurable tactics to close sales/enrollment gap between quota and actual when needed. P erforms all other duties as assigned
Additional Functions / Information
  • Works with leadership and stakeholders to develop and execute pipeline building and recruitment strategies to meet enrollment objectives in increasingly competitive markets.
  • Supervises and conduct recruitment activities (on and off campus recruitment fairs and information sessions, graduate school fairs, campus and building tours, electronic communications and social media) for prospective students.
  • Oversees and facilitates a team of Student Ambassadors and coordinates prospective student class visits and information sessions.
  • Contributes to the development of marketing materials, web content, and advertising campaigns in support of student recruitment.
  • Oversees the development and monitoring of statistical reports to enhance recruitment strategies, yield management, forecasting and operational efficiencies. Develops reports and collects data to report on performance benchmarks
  • Oversees the utilization of a customer relations management system that will customize and track enrollment data, personalize communications for a diverse prospect pool, and generate reports to drive enrollment strategies.
  • Maintains an understanding of the competitive landscape for the assigned graduate program(s) to include knowledge of key competitor and aspirant program offerings and the approaches they are taking to message and attract prospective students.
  • Makes recommendations to maintain/enhance the market competitiveness of Rice Business MBA programs based on changes in the competitive landscape.
  • In collaboration with the Sr. Director of Financial Services and the Director of Student Financial Services, monitors aid distributions and explore expansion of aid opportunities.
  • Prepares and maintains the departmental budget; monitors and evaluates effectiveness of policies and procedures.
  • Ensures the involvement of the entire school in the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic enrollment management plan that is aligned with the mission, academic vision, and strategic plan of the institution.
  • Designs, implements, and monitors the enrollment plan, including enrollment targets, recruitment objectives, tactics and strategies in consultation with stakeholders.
  • Develops strategic partnerships with faculty, academic deans, business and industry to advance enrollment efforts and success.
  • Develops, and analyzes admissions data, making informed decisions about short- and long-range enrollment goals and new market opportunities
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • 10 years or more of relevant work experience
  • Excellent business, program and staff management skills
  • Demonstrated successful budget management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as presentation skills
  • Excellent reading comprehension and critical analysis skills to make distinctions among competitive applicants
  • Demonstrated ability to work both autonomously and with various teams across campus
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, time management skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with CRM lead/prospect management processes and systems including application systems, Slate, Salesforce, and ERPs, including Banner for an educational institution
  • Working knowledge of project management tools such as Asana
  • Previous supervisory experience in recruiting and admissions in higher education
  • Previous experience making admission decisions that use a multivariate decision criteria approach.
