Position Summary

The supervisor for the HR Service Center is responsible for supervising the HR service center staff, the daily operations of the service center, and managing international employment services for employer-sponsored work visas and permanent residency programs.

Salary

$55,000 to $60,000

Essential Functions
  • Lead and supervise the HR Service Center team to ensure efficient and effective delivery of HR Services to Rice faculty, staff, and students by supporting all HR-related inquiries
  • Advises administrators, department heads, supervisors, and senior management on operations, processes, and policies related to human resources
  • Provides advanced coordination for human resources functions by collaborating with HR to fully utilize iO functionality, such as professional development, succession planning, onboarding, and training; coordinates and monitors key processes including performance management, workforce compensation, benefits open enrollment, and required training
  • Acts as key contact for division HR transactions; initiates and completes routine to complex HR transactions (job and pay changes, faculty, staff and post-doc searches, terminations, employee status changes, etc.); monitors and ensures HR transactions are completed in a timely and accurate manner, including coordinating the initiation of processes proactively; coordinates and manages visa and immigration actions for faculty, staff and post docs
  • Develops and maintains processes to document business critical operations to serve as a reference guide for training for the HR Service Center team
  • Conducts all monitoring and audits to ensure data integrity and compliance with all applicable policies and regulations
  • Completes other duties as assigned
Additional Functions / Information
  • International Employment Services
  • Ensures the University maintains compliance with U.S. immigration laws and regulations for H1B visas and University sponsored permanent residency (PERM)
  • Monitors and manages the day to day operations within HR for H1B and immigration processes
  • Partners with immigration counsel and staff to steward international employment processes
  • Provides guidance to supervisors and employees on international employment processes related to H1B and PERM employment-based sponsorship
  • Creates and presents training programs/tools and procedure documents for HR personnel, OISS staff, and departmental managers
Experience and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree
    • In lieu of the education requirement, additional related experience, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted
  • 3 years related experience in human resources or experience leading or supervising teams
