Summary

OpenStax is a non-profit textbook publisher, learning software producer and platform for learning research based at Rice University. Our mission is to provide every student with free or low-cost access to high-quality learning materials and tools that help them succeed in their education and career. We have created software to help college students in three of those subjects read with more engagement and practice more effectively, incorporating our research team’s expertise in cognitive science and machine learning. OpenStax has published more than fifty high-quality, peer-reviewed textbooks, available for free and used by millions of students and educators annually.

The Account Executive is a key OpenStax team member who helps drive sustainability efforts for OpenStax. The Account Executive’s responsibilities are twofold: the ideal candidate will 1) manage high priority B2B relationships with K12 school district partners, recruiting new districts and working with each district, so that they take full advantage of partnership benefits, and 2) connecting targeted customer accounts with potential OpenStax Ally partner sales teams and facilitating technology adoption opportunities for target customers and institutions, The Account Executive may supervise interns as needed.

You will join a team who is driving change at a pivotal phase of our evolution, as we deliver high quality educational content ranging from textbooks to simulations and videos to exercises to full courses, and give educators and learners the support they need in core college and high school disciplines.

This position is grant funded and continuation of this position is dependent on funding and need.

The ideal candidate will have experience building and maintaining relationships with public school districts and have knowledge of educational technology products and sales.

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for overseeing strategic long-range plans/programs to meet organizational objectives for a school or department
  • Defines and/or leverages the communication and brand strategy for the organization incorporating appropriate channels
  • Sets and monitors budgets for broad based projects impacting many areas
  • Selects and oversees the department vendor relationships
  • Writes, designs, and coordinates the production of marketing and communication materials
  • Leads market research and analysis efforts
  • Guides organization to use the results in strategic marketing direction, product segmentation and customer targeting
  • Participates in university-wide and/or organization-wide initiatives and cross-functional teams to establish the organization as a strategic partner and thought leader
  • Provide guidance to others
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Five (5) years related experience in marketing, direct sales, or account management experience
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written
  • Organization and creativity skills
  • Analytical problem solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with B2B sales and marketing
  • Ability to use Salesforce, Google Docs, and Slack
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate with a team and develop creative solutions
  • Ability to understand market trends
