Position Summary

The Evans lab is interested in the ecology and evolution of phenotypic diversity, integrating data from developmental biology, ecology, biomechanics and phylogeny to understand this process at various timescales. Bony fishes provide a unique opportunity to ask these questions and study the origins of phenotypic diversity along with the interface between phenotype and environment, within the most species-rich assemblage of vertebrates on the planet.

The Evans lab is in search of a lab management specialist I to provide office/lab management and organization and data management. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a research environment, supporting with scheduling and occasional data collection.

This is a two-year term-limited appointment with the possibility of extension.

Salary: $36,000

Essential Functions
  • Manages laboratory and assists with setting up the laboratory
  • Coordinates the day-to-day technical operations in the lab
  • Coordinates all aspects of the processes
  • Procures research materials and supplies for the laboratory
  • Ensures and promotes lab safety and routine laboratory hygiene
  • Maintains laboratory apparatus and equipment
  • Supervises research technicians and students in the lab
  • Trains students regarding research techniques
  • Performs all other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in biology or related field
  • 3 years of experience in area of biology or related field
    • Related experience gained through lab internships or independent undergraduate research is allowed
    • In lieu of the experience requirement, additional related education, above and beyond what is required, on an equivalent year for year basis may be substituted
  • Ability to set work priorities and meet deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex instructions
  • Knowledge of best practices for a research lab
  • Excellent organizational, planning, problem solving, and time management skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Office Suite skills
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to be proactive, takes initiative
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Knowledge of analytical laboratory equipment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Proven ability to multitask and work in an environment that requires flexibility with changing schedules and priorities to meet business needs, sometimes with short notice
  • Demonstrated ability to do physical activities such as walking back and forth between buildings to pickup/drop off supplies and to lift up to 50 lbs.
