Position Summary
The Evans lab is hiring for a Postdoctoral Research Associate position in the area of phenotypic evolution and trait diversification of bony fishes.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience using phylogenetic comparative methods to study trait evolution across large clades of organisms. The candidate should also have a strong publication record and experience collecting datasets independently. Experience with geometric morphometrics is recommended but not required.
This is a two-year postdoctoral position.
Essential Functions
- Collects and analyzes large three-dimensional shape datasets of teleost fishes using micro-CT scanning and digitizes 3D datasets
- Compiles species range datasets and other ecological datasets
- Leads and advises graduate and undergraduate students in the lab
- Publishes and presents research findings as first author
- Provides academic services (i.e. teaching classes) to the department as required
- Performs all other duties as assigned
- Ph.D in evolutionary biology or related field
- Skill in phylogenetic comparative methods
- Skill in large-scale dataset collection and analysis
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as oral presentation skills
- Organization and time management skills
- Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection, and analyses
- Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline
- Writes scholarly papers based on ongoing research and submits them to journals for publication
- Able to work in a collaborative environment
- Able to work independently, decisively, and professionally with minimal supervision and direction
- Experience with geometric morphometrics
