About
Founded in 1916, Sacramento City College ( SCC ) is a multi-campus, urban college that consists of a 70-acre main campus across from William Land Park. The college has two educational centers, one in Davis on the campus of the University of California, Davis, and one in West Sacramento located adjacent to the public library, community center and civic center. SCC is a vibrant teaching and learning institution with approximately 20,000 day and evening students and is recognized as both a Hispanic-Serving Institution ( HSI ) and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution ( AANAPISI ).

SCC awards Associate in Arts or Science degrees as well as Associate Degrees for Transfer, which guarantee transfer into the California State University system. The college offers Career Education certificates and degrees, transfer credit for students who desire to continue their education at a four-year college or university, and instruction in basic skills such as English, English as a second language, and mathematics.

Position Summary
General Responsibilities:
The faculty member shall be responsible for the following: counseling services and/or teaching assigned classes under the supervision of the area dean; helping students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; assessing student learning outcomes; maintaining a thorough and up-to-date knowledge in their regular teaching field; continuing professional development; utilizing current technology in the performance of job duties; maintaining standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; assisting with articulation and curriculum development and review; serving on college committees and participating in faculty governance including accreditation and student co-curricular activities; assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the area dean; fulfilling other duties and responsibilities of a full-time faculty member as outlined in the college faculty handbook.

● Trends and challenges facing community college students.
● Counseling designed to support student retention and success.
● Counseling academically and/or economically disadvantaged students.
● Counseling students with an emphasis on pathways and achieving student equity.

Position Salary Information:
Initial maximum salary placement is based on academic degree, upper/graduate level units earned, and/or related professional occupational experience per the Los Rios College Federation of Teachers Contract (the initial maximum placement is Class V, Step 8). Assignment Responsibilities
The assignment may include, but is not limited to:
  • Providing crisis intervention and personal counseling.
  • Providing individual and group counseling to assist students in making decisions regarding associate’s degree, certificate programs, transfer, and occupational/career goals.
  • Preparing and maintaining counseling records using current technology, relaying pertinent information to college personnel as needed, and respecting the confidentiality of such records as required by law.
  • Providing counseling for issues impacting retention, persistence, and academic success, and referring students to resources as appropriate and necessary.
  • Aiding students in resolving personal and social problems that may adversely affect their achievement.
  • Studying the needs, interests, abilities, achievements, and aptitudes of students.
  • Administering assessments and inventories/career tests to groups or individual students and interpreting the results.
  • Overseeing outreach activities.
  • Developing and maintaining collaborative working relationships with instructional areas, outreach centers, feeder high schools, neighboring colleges, and community resource agencies; fostering effective high school/college relations.
  • Assisting students in career exploration using current technology, in developing an understanding of the employment environment, and in making and implementing career decisions.
  • Assisting students in exploring four-year college transfer options, in understanding transfer agreements and transfer degrees, and in making sound decisions related to transferring.
  • Studying the needs, interests, abilities, achievements, and aptitudes of students.
  • Providing counseling for issues impacting retention, persistence, and academic success, and referring students to resources as appropriate and necessary.
  • Participating in the planning and implementation of the Student Success Plan activities, including counseling, developing Student Education Plan (iSEPs), facilitating course planning, follow-up, and supporting student success programs as directed.
  • Making recommendations to assist the college in fulfilling its obligation to students, consistent with the Student Success and Support Program ( SSSP ) Plan.
Work Year 174 days Work Schedule
The instructional assignment may include day, evening, online, hybrid, weekend, and/or off-campus classes. Total Hrs per Week/Day 7.5 hours per day Special Requirements Minimum Qualifications
1. Have a master’s degree from an accredited institution, completed by July 1, 2022, in Counseling, Rehabilitation Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Guidance Counseling, Educational Counseling, Social Work, Career Development, or the equivalent.*

AND
2A. Completion of a minimum of nine semester units of college course work predominantly relating to ethnic minorities or persons impacted by language, social or economic disadvantages; OR,
2B. Have completed six semester units or the equivalent of a college-level counseling practicum or counseling fieldwork courses in a community college EOPS program, or in a program dealing predominantly with ethnic minorities or persons impacted by language, social or economic disadvantages.

AND
3. Have two years of occupational experience or the equivalent in work relating to ethnic minorities or persons impacted by language, social or economic disadvantages.

4. Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, including those with physical or learning disabilities as it relates to differences in learning styles; and successfully foster and support an inclusive educational and employment environment.
