Responsibilities:
In carpentry, the applicant must have knowledge of carpentry, rough and finish, drywall installation, roofing and painting. Incumbent will be responsible for the repair of all buildings, structures, signs, furniture, and miscellaneous items to insure a safe and efficient operation. Must have the ability to use these skills with established guide lines to ensure the safe and efficient condition of all buildings.

In HVAC, the incumbent must be able to inspect heating, air conditioning and ventilation system to see if they are working properly and the ability to set thermostats and check temperatures. Applicant needs a wide variety of skilled tasks involved in the maintenance and repair of ventilation, heating and air conditioning units related to the care and maintenance of Delta State University buildings and facilities.

In electrical, the incumbent must be able to test and repair electrical circuits, change light bulbs and replace ballast and run temporary power for special events. The employee maintains electrical systems and equipment for DSU. He tests and repairs fire alarm systems, repairs electrical circuits and panels, trouble shoots electrical outages, coordinates power outages for construction purposes, repairs and services electrical motors and emergency generators.

In plumbing, the incumbent must be able to do simple repair to existing water supply and sanitary sewage systems. The incumbent must be able to install, repair or replace domestic hot and cold water lines and valve stems. Repair and replace traps and steam & domestic pipes. Repair and replace domestic sump pumps and sewage pumps. Troubleshoot and repair steam, water, and gas utility distribution systems and water features.

In grounds maintenance, the incumbent must be able to operate construction and earth moving equipment, and have a working knowledge of irrigation systems. This employee will be responsible for all required and appropriate record and paper work.

Qualifications:
Must be able to read, write, speak and understand oral and written instructions. High school diploma or GED required. Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under DSU insurance carrier. Must meet the requirements for a Commercial Driver’s License within five months of employment.The incumbent operates various power equipment and vehicles including tractors, backhoe, front end loader, threading machine, augers and flush truck, aerial lifts, as well as typical maintenance hand tools used in maintenance of campus and upkeep of the University. Ability to safely operate trucks and vans with trailers in tow and navigate safely through campus streets and narrow driveways. Must be able to lift a minimum of 80 pounds, climb ladders, work in tight spaces including trenches and work outdoors in temperatures and weather extremes. Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. Performs other related duties as required or assigned. Must be able to work extra hours and weekends as needed or required.Certification of training in various areas, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and grounds maintenance, the employee will be maintaining and repairing.

12 monthCommensurate with experience and qualifications

Preferred Qualifications:
Certification of training in various areas, carpentry, electrical, HVAC, plumbing and grounds maintenance, the employee will be maintaining and repairing.
