Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Two years of experience working in international education or an office environment
  • Strong computer skills
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with students and other stakeholders
  • A demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively
  • Some evening and weekend hours will be required for this position
License/Certification Required Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. The primary responsibility of the Education Abroad Advisor is advising students and management of the full application life cycle (recruitment, application, while abroad, returnee) of outgoing App State students which includes exchanges, affiliates, and faculty-led programs. This position will also provide support to the Assistant Director with incoming international exchange students.
    Specific duties include but are not limited to:
    advising 120+ students/semester; application management and support; reviewing 70+ applications/semester; credit approval support; insurance registration; pre-departure orientation and returnee workshops; transcript processing; course registration; liaising with academic departments and other campus service offices; and communicating with our 60+ international partners.

  2. The secondary responsibility is to work with the Director and Assistant Director on on-campus outreach efforts. The outreach responsibilities require not only interpersonal skills but also an understanding of how the campus community (students, faculty, administrators, and family) consumes information. This position will work closely with the Education Abroad team to create an outreach plan for the various constituents and will be instrumental in carrying out the plan. This plan will include attending info sessions; classroom visits; sharing information with advisors across campus; attending campus events such as Open House and New Student Orientation; creating marketing materials; and assisting in Curriculum Integration projects.|

  3. The third responsibility is to supervise the cohort of Education Abroad Peer Advisors. These student workers, sponsored by their study abroad affiliate program, work in the office to market and promote education abroad opportunities. The Education Abroad Advisor is responsible for supervising this cohort of students, providing professional development opportunities, and supporting their professional growth.

  4. This position will also be responsible for other duties as assigned that align with the OIED mission and the university's strategic plans.
