Dean of Undergraduate Studies

Position Description and Summary

 

Cleary University invites candidates to apply for the position of Dean of Undergraduate Studies. The academic team at Cleary University seeks a dynamic student- and faculty-focused leader possessing a successful record of championing a strong, vibrant, and relevant undergraduate educational experience of exceptional quality.

 

Fulfilling Cleary University’s Mission to “provide an intimate and inclusive, student-centered business education that instills the values of The Cleary Mind™ in our community”, the Dean of Undergraduate Studies works closely with key academic, student affairs, and operational leaders and personnel to support the success of Cleary University’s undergraduate student body, which includes traditional campus-based students, student athletes, and returning adult students across a variety of instructional modalities.

 

The Dean of Undergraduate Studies leads the undergraduate faculty through all phases of their instructional and assessment responsibilities, supports the continued professional development of the faculty, guides the development of new and revision to existing academic curriculum consist with the Cleary University system of academic governance, and contributes to the development and implementation of new academic and University initiatives. The Dean of Undergraduate Studies requires an individual with thoughtful leadership and innovative vision. Working with the undergraduate faculty and students, key leaders throughout the University, and relevant personnel, the Dean of Undergraduate Studies is responsible for advancing the excellence and quality of the University’s undergraduate programs and activities. Using outstanding communication and administration skills, the Dean of Undergraduate Studies aligns essential internal and external constituencies toward common goals.

Responsibilities

 

  • Support, supervise, and evaluate day-to-day undergraduate classroom operations and instructional processes across all instructional modalities. Assist in the academic guidance and advising of undergraduate students. Monitor undergraduate student academic progress, addressing student academic challenges and emergencies. Handle, gather appropriate information, make determinations, and satisfy all incoming student and faculty academic issues. Collaborate with the Registrar to conduct Prior Learning Reviews (as necessary) for incoming undergraduate students. Collaborate with undergraduate faculty and relevant personnel to make final probation determinations Recruit, hire, credential, schedule, and support the undergraduate faculty. Make recommendations for ongoing retention of undergraduate faculty. Collaborate with relevant personnel to establish and maintain new undergraduate faculty orientation programs, in-service training, and professional development needs and requirements. Oversee the standards and methods used by undergraduate faculty to measure student achievement, collaborating with the undergraduate faculty to surface areas for continuous improvement. Serve as a consultant and resource to the undergraduate faculty in matters of student engagement, classroom management, teaching methods, and general University policies and procedures. Conduct regular meetings with undergraduate faculty, covering routine undergraduate academic matters and stimulating exchange of ideas on issues of educational/philosophical interest and concern. Perform yearly performance reviews for all undergraduate full-time faculty, adjunct faculty, and department chairs. Supervise and direct the activities of relevant department chairs, sponsors of various student organizations and activities, and faculty committees. Lead and collaborate with the undergraduate faculty with the system of academic governance to develop and revise the undergraduate academic curriculum for strength, vibrancy, relevancy, and quality, including key usage of periodic assessment and program review efforts. Collaborate with relevant academic, student affairs, operations leaders to propose, construct, and implement academic and University initiatives to improve student and faculty success. Collaborate with relevant personnel to measure, monitor, analyze, and communicate undergraduate Academic Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness metrics and goals, including those related to undergraduate student retention, persistence, and graduation success. Fully support compliance with legal requirements of government regulations and agencies. Fully support ongoing and emergent institutional accreditation, programmatic accreditation, and institutional affiliation requirements of Cleary University. Perform other duties as assigned.

 

 

Qualifications

 

  • An earned doctorate from an institutionally (i.e., regionally) accredited institution in a discipline related to Cleary University’s academic programs. A minimum of five years of progressive leadership experience in university/college academic administration (including faculty management), equivalent to a Dean, Associate Dean, Department Chair, or Program Director. A minimum of five years teaching experience at the university/college level, including demonstrated experience teaching online, face-to-face, and blended instructional modalities. Successfully experience developing or revising academic curriculum in a discipline related to Cleary University’s academic programs. Successfully experience developing, revising, or maintaining academic assessment at the programmatic level. Successfully experience securing or maintaining programmatic accreditation for university/college business programs.

Employment Classification: The Dean of Undergraduate Studies will be a full-time employee.
