Job Summary

Math Corps Camp involves math instruction in both the basics and advanced topics, recreational activities and time for socialization and team-building. Campers are immersed in academic life on Drexel’s campus while working with high school mentors, college students and teachers in a supportive team environment focused on personal development and future success.

The Program Coordinator supports the operations and all programs of Philadelphia Math Corps at Drexel University.

Essential Functions
  • Work to ensure the continued success of the Math Corps and its mission in supporting the summer math program and year-round tutoring efforts and coordination.
  • Support the management of all Math Corps program operations including student recruitment, selection and registration; parent and family interactions; program scheduling and the securing of facilities; the purchasing and storage of supplies and food; the preparation and processing of instructional materials and exams; and the planning of special events.
  • Assist management staff in the planning, development, and implementation of program/project strategies. Review and assess program/project needs; recommend changes to support organizational operations and services.
  • Oversee and troubleshoot all aspects of the Math Corps programs during their implementation, including those occurring during non-traditional evening and weekend hours.
  • Assist with the recruiting, hiring, coordinating the training of, supervise and evaluate all year-round, full-time and part-time Math Corps office staff and all temporary summer, Saturday, and evening employees.
  • Oversee the compilation and organization of all student and program records and the management of the program's database and prepare required reports.
  • Represent the Math Corps at University and public forums, and participate with the leadership team in managing the Math Corps' public relations; developing and maintaining informational and promotional materials, managing the Math Corps' website and social media involvement and overseeing the Math Corps' presence in the press, radio or TV.
  • Assist the leadership team in developing and maintaining strong alumni and constituent support networks.
Required Qualifications
  • A HS Diploma or GED is required.
  • 1-3 years minimum experience is required.
  • Program and/or project management experience.
  • Excellent administrative skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytic and problem-solving skills.
  • COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Strong communication skills, both oral and written. Writes clearly and informatively. Can respond effectively to sensitive inquiries or complaints and maintain confidentiality.
  • INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Able to interact effectively and empathetically with a diversity of other individuals, including students, parents, faculty, staff and administrators. Able to do so in pressure situations.
  • INITIATIVE: Able to work independently on projects with minimal supervision.
  • PROBLEM SOLVING SKILLS: Strong analytic skills. Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner. Gathers and analyzes information skillfully. Works well in group problem solving situations.
  • COMPUTER SKILLS: Proficient in the use of standard computer software programs. Able to learn new systems.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, or related and relevant experience.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and students from urban school districts preferred.
  • Experience in or a strong understanding of the important issues involved in public education preferred.
  • Background in Mathematics preferred.
