Accredited by the Council of Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA), the CDS program offers both graduate and undergraduate degrees.  Our rigorous Master’s program is designed to be a five-semester program, including two semesters of clinical internship.  Our students excel at passing the Praxis exam and have very high job placement rates.  We promote collaboration between our faculty and students, enabling students to actively engage with faculty through clinical, research, and mentorship experiences.

A strong history of collaborations is found through the relationship CDS has with both the SIU Clinical Center and the Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders.  The SIU Clinical Center is a robust training clinic that has provided an array of services ranging from psychological and speech language assessments, to family and couples counseling for over 60 years.  The Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders provides a training center for CDS students on evidence-based practice for working with children with Autism Spectrum Disorder.  A member of the Autism Program of Illinois since 2003, hundreds of children have benefited.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Communication Disorders and Sciences, Audiology, or a related discipline.  ABD applicants will be considered if all Ph.D. degree requirements are met by August 15, 2022.  If all degree requirements are not completed by that date, a term, non-tenure track appointment may be offered in accordance with University policy (http://policies.siu.edu/personnel_policies/chapter2/ch2-faps/conting.php). Applicants must possess potential for scholarly research that leads to publications in nationally-refereed journals.
