Department Summary
The SOJC is an ACEJMC-accredited program with over a 100-year history at the University of Oregon, which is a comprehensive research university and a member of the Association of American Universities (AAU). Our program thrives as a journalism and communication school known for innovation, ethics, and action. We offer four undergraduate concentrations (advertising, journalism, media studies, and public relations), five professional and academic Master's programs, and a doctoral program in communication and media studies.
Position Summary
The Graduate Programs Office is responsible for the recruitment, admissions, matriculation, coordination, and management of students in and alumni of the Eugene-based SOJC graduate programs.

The purpose of this position is to assist the Senior Associate Dean, Director of Doctoral Programs, and the Associate Director of Graduate Affairs in coordinating the graduate programs of the SOJC.

This position reports to the Associate Director of Graduate Affairs.
Minimum Requirements
  • Two years of general clerical experience. One year of which included typing, word processing, or other experience generating documents;
    OR
  • An Associate's degree in Office Occupations or Office Technology;
    OR
  • Graduation from a private school of business with a Certificate in Office Occupations or Office Technology and one year of general clerical experience.

    College courses in Office Occupations or Office Technology will substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
    Professional Competencies
  • Strong interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate effectively with prospective students from a variety of backgrounds.
  • Strong verbal and written communications.
  • Ease in using technology for communication, record keeping, and management of data.
  • Professionalism, adaptability, and initiative.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively, utilizing a range of communication channels with diverse groups of students, faculty, administrators, alumni, staff, and other partners and business people at all levels of an organization.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook (or similar software).
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and the capacity to handle work-related stress.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships with faculty, students, and staff.
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of GTFF contract law, UO payroll policies and regulations, UO Admissions procedures and policies.
  • Experience with International student visa rules and regulations.
