JOB SUMMARY :
Coppin State University, a fully accredited institution and member of the University System of Maryland, is accepting applications for an Associate Budget Director.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Provide support to the AVP of Finance and Budget in the areas of budgetary planning, development, and analysis.
- Assist with the development and preparation of the University’s operating and capital budgets and budget requests.
- Assist with developing the annual campus budget process and timeline, as well as the compilation and analysis of budgetary information as it is submitted.
- Prepare statistical analysis of revenue and expenditure data for use in budgetary evaluation and projections.
- Work with departmental Business Managers to analyze and review budgetary expenditures to ensure spending activity is aligned with resources and University priorities.
- Monitor the expenditure of special or restricted funds to ensure activities are aligned with approved activities.
- Integrate and execute the budget within the University’s ERP system.
- Assist AVP with the planning and review of annual legislative budget documents and proposed legislation to determine their fiscal impact to the University.
- Review budgetary data within the University’s ERP system to ensure the accuracy of budget data.
- Review and update internal budgeting procedures, as necessary.
- Facilitate and deliver budgetary training for other operational areas of the University.
- Serve as backup to the AVP when necessary.
- Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION :
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field from an accredited university.
- Master’s degree in business, finance, or accounting is highly preferred.
- Minimum of five years experience in budgeting/accounting and/or managing fiscal services such as budget development, forecasting, or analysis of financial data, preferably in a higher education environment.
- Experience using PeopleSoft or Workday Financials highly preferred.
- Ability to function effectively as a member of an administrative team.
- Ability to solve problems utilizing sound judgment so that decisions are made appropriately and timely.
- Ability to function effectively with faculty, students, support staff, and administrators utilizing exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to interpret, analyze, summarize, and present financial information.
- Ability to prioritize, manage and successfully complete multiple tasks.
- Exhibit initiative, possess a strong work ethic and excellent customer service skills.
- Competency in leadership and strategic acumen along with the technical skills necessary to perform to expectations within the role.
- Capability to implement and manage change.
- Excellent organizational skills assuring that all project timelines and report deadlines are met.
- Demonstrate a high level of attention to detail and accuracy with financial transactions.
- Experience with fund/governmental accounting.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite and a variety of computer software packages.
