COMMUNICATION AND OUTREACH COORDINATOR

Salary:

Minimum $46,000 ANNUAL (12 months)
Depending on Qualifications

Job Summary:

The Multimedia Designer will develop, support, and coordinate the communication and outreach plan and activities of two academic departments, including website design, digital advertising, social media, event promotion, and annual newsletters. This position is responsible for collaborating in content creation and website design with faculty, staff, and students to draft energetic and creative copy and striking visual imagery for email, web, and print. The position will also entail additional administrative support for departmental facilities and public spaces, purchasing and maintaining a small supply inventory, and regular participation in departmental meetings.

Responsibilities:

Designs and develops multimedia solutions and materials in collaboration with other content creators, adhering to project timelines and developing and posting content for a specified unit in support of visually and contextually communicating messages aligned with unit strategy.
  • 5% Conceptualizes, plans, designs, and executes multimedia solutions for a specific work unit that may be used through various platforms in collaboration with stakeholders and other content creation staff
  • 10% Contributes to the development of communication, event, and marketing materials to fit into the overall strategy of the work unit
  • 5% Tracks and manages timelines and deliverables related to communication projects
  • 45% Directs operational activities for multiple communication platforms and posts content within a work unit that may include websites, social media, written/illustrative communications, and online tools
  • 10% Develops communication, event, and marketing strategies and materials to align with the overall work unit strategic initiative
  • 5% Develops and facilitates trainings for staff and customers regarding technology options and best practices
  • 5% Manage and track keys for departmental offices assignments. Maintain department display cases and public facing promotional space.
  • 10% Responsible for purchasing departmental supplies and maintaining inventory using ShopUW+ and the UW Purchasing Card program.
  • 5% Provide administrative support to Department Administrator and Chair and attend and serve on department committees/meetings.

Education:

Required
Associate's Degree

Preferred
Bachelor's Degree in communications, journalism, public relations, marketing, business, digital design, or related field is preferred.

Qualifications:

- Training or experience with web technology and web content management systems, graphic design principles and software, social media platforms, and e-communication management tools is required.

- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience and ability to answer questions from students, faculty, staff, and the general public in a professional manner is required.

- Demonstrated team skills and ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups. Ability to exercise independent judgment to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees is required.

- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, set priorities, and coordinate various internal and external communication channels and multiple projects at a time is required.

- Prior experience in communications/marketing or direct academic training in communications is preferred.

- Previous experience using WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office is preferred.

- Past experience developing and writing web content in academic settings is preferred.

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Work schedule details will be discussed with the supervisor at time of offer.
